亞述王西拿基立、率軍旅攻拉吉、遣使臣告猶大王希西家、與耶路撒冷民、猶大族、曰、亞述王西拿基立云、爾居耶路撒冷城、果誰恃。希西家許爾上帝耶和華必拯爾於亞述王手、豈非誘爾、飢渴而死。何希西家廢彼崇坵、去彼祭壇、命猶大族、耶路撒冷民、惟在一壇崇拜焚香。我與列祖、滅四方民、爾豈不知乎、列邦之上帝、豈能救其國、脫於我手乎。我列祖殲滅四國、其中皆有上帝、孰一能救其民於我手、則爾上帝、焉能援爾於我手。勿為希西家所惑、而信其言、蓋列邦之上帝、無能拯其民於我祖及我之手、則爾上帝必不能援爾於我手。使臣復訕上帝耶和華、及其僕希西家。致書侮以色列族之上帝耶和華、訕之曰、列邦之上帝、不拯其國、脫於我手、故希西家之上帝、亦不能救其民脫於我手。亞述王之使臣、用猶大方言、大聲呼耶路撒冷城上之民、使之恐懼觳觫、以陷其城。訕耶路撒冷之上帝、與訕人手所作列邦之上帝無異。希西家王亞麼士子先知以賽亞、呼天祈禱。耶和華遣使至亞述王營壘、滅諸勁旅、與武士長、亞述王恥之、遄歸故土、入其上帝殿、為子所弒。於是耶和華拯希西家及耶路撒冷民、脫於亞述王西拿基立手、隨在護之、脫於諸敵。眾至耶路撒冷獻禮於耶和華、納貢於猶大王、自後希西家昌大於列邦。○

然亞述王遣大單、臘撒哩、臘沙基、統率大軍、自拉吉至耶路撒冷、而攻希西家王、漂工有田、田間有道、近上沼之溝、三帥既至、立於其側、呼王使出、其時理家事、希勒家子以利亞金、繕寫設拿、史官亞薩子約亞俱出。臘沙基曰、爾當告希西家、亞述大王云、爾誰恃、爾自以為智勇兼全、善於戰鬥、然爾何所恃而逆我乎。爾於埃及、倚之若杖、不知彼猶已折之萑葦、按手其上、必為所刺、凡倚埃及王法老者亦若是、抑爾言恃爾上帝耶和華、何希西家廢其崇坵、去其祭壇、命猶大及耶路撒冷之民、惟在耶路撒冷壇前崇拜乎。今當以質質於我主亞述王、則我予爾馬二千匹、爾能使人乘之否。不能、曷能禦我主之僕武士長至微之一乎、然則爾恃埃及、欲得車馬、亦奚以為。昔耶和華命我曰、當滅斯國、今我來攻、毀此城垣、豈非遵命而行乎。希勒家子以利亞金、與設拿、約亞、告臘沙基曰、我儕識亞蘭方言、可用之與我語、勿用猶大方言恐城垣之民聞之。臘沙基曰、我主遣我、不第與爾及爾主言也、亦使我與城垣之民言、使彼及爾自啖其遺溺。臘沙基遂立、用猶大方言、大聲呼曰、亞述大王之言、爾宜聽從、勿為希西家所誘、彼不能拯爾脫我手、希西家使爾恃耶和華、望其拯爾、及爾城垣、脫於亞述王手、爾勿聽焉、蓋亞述王曰、爾當與我修和、歸誠與我、厥後可各食其葡萄及無花果、各飲己井之水、迨我遷爾往彼異方、與爾故土相同、有穀有酒、有餅有蜜、葡萄園橄欖囿俱備、使爾永生不死。希西家言爾必見拯於耶和華、爾勿聽焉。四周之民、所事之上帝、豈得救其國、脫於亞述王之手乎。哈末亞八之上帝安在、西法瓦音、希拿、以瓦之上帝安在、豈得救撒馬利亞邑於我手乎。列國諸上帝中、孰一救其國於我手、是則耶和華焉能救耶路撒冷於我手乎。民聞是言、不措一詞、蓋王命勿應之。理家事希勒家子以利亞金、繕寫設拿、史官亞薩子約亞、自裂其衣、以臘沙基言反告於王。

回見大闢城垣、隙處甚多、惟下沼有水、滙於一處。耶路撒冷之室、綜核其數、毀厥宅第、以葺城垣、內城外郭之間、鑿池以蓄舊沼之水、自昔以來、降此災者、爾何不仰望之。
