Those who walk righteously and speak what is right, who reject gain from extortion and keep their hands from accepting bribes, who stop their ears against plots of murder and shut their eyes against contemplating evil—

People must do what is right. They must be honest and tell the truth. They must not get rich by cheating others. Their hands must not receive money from those who want special favors. They must not let their ears listen to plans to commit murder. They must close their eyes to even thinking about doing what is evil.

He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes his hands, lest they hold a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed and shuts his eyes from looking on evil,

Those who are honest and fair, who refuse to profit by fraud, who stay far away from bribes, who refuse to listen to those who plot murder, who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong—

The one who lives righteously and speaks rightly, who refuses profit from extortion, whose hand never takes a bribe, who stops his ears from listening to murderous plots and shuts his eyes against evil schemes—

One who walks righteously and speaks with integrity, One who rejects unjust gain And shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe; One who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed And shuts his eyes from looking at evil;

He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from taking a bribe, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from looking upon evil:

The one who lives righteously and speaks rightly, who refuses gain from extortion, whose hand never takes a bribe, who stops his ears from listening to murderous plots and shuts his eyes to avoid endorsing evil—

The one who lives uprightly and speaks honestly; the one who refuses to profit from oppressive measures and rejects a bribe; the one who does not plot violent crimes and does not seek to harm others–

He who walks righteously and speaks blamelessly, he who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands, refusing to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from looking at evil—

Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity;[ and] quicken thou me in thy way.

Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

Blessed[ is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.But his delight[ is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam[ the son] of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.

LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.

And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore[ him] fourfold.

Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove[ them].For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

Behold, here I[ am]: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received[ any] bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not[ smite] him the second time.And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD’S anointed, and be guiltless?David said furthermore,[ As] the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD’S anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that[ is] at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.

Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of thy poor in his cause.Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.

Gather not my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men:In whose hands[ is] mischief, and their right hand is full of bribes.But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity: redeem me, and be merciful unto me.

Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do justice: for my salvation[ is] near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed.Blessed[ is] the man[ that] doeth this, and the son of man[ that] layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.

[ That] hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour’s wife,Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence,[ but] hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,[ That] hath taken off his hand from the poor,[ that] hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.

If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?If I have withheld the poor from[ their] desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;( For from my youth he was brought up with me, as[ with] a father, and I have guided her from my mother’s womb;)If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;If his loins have not blessed me, and[ if] he were[ not] warmed with the fleece of my sheep;If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:[ Then] let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.For destruction[ from] God[ was] a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold,[ Thou art] my confidence;If I rejoiced because my wealth[ was] great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

Blessed[ are] they that keep judgment,[ and] he that doeth righteousness at all times.

That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge[ asketh] for a reward; and the great[ man], he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up.The best of them[ is] as a brier: the most upright[ is sharper] than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen[ and] thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity.

Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse[ any] falsely; and be content with your wages.

Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD;[ therefore] I shall not slide.Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.

He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them.And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing[ to answer].Also I said, It[ is] not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?I likewise,[ and] my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this usury.Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth[ part] of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them.Then said they, We will restore[ them], and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise.Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.

And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe privily.And it came to pass afterward, that David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD’S anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he[ is] the anointed of the LORD.So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on[ his] way.

I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers.I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked.I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O LORD:

If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know[ it]: wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.

For among my people are found wicked[ men]: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.As a cage is full of birds, so[ are] their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
