Without any proof, they claim that a person is guilty. In court they try to trap the one who speaks up for others. By using dishonest witnesses they keep people who aren’t guilty from being treated fairly.

To have respect of persons[ is] not good: for for a piece of bread[ that] man will transgress.

And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge[ him] vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

Prophesy ye not,[ say they to them that] prophesy: they shall not prophesy to them,[ that] they shall not take shame.O[ thou that art] named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the LORD straitened?[ are] these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?

Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce[ it] right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.

And said[ unto them], What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
