You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it,“ You did not make me”? Can the pot say to the potter,“ You know nothing”?

They turn everything upside down. How silly they are to think that potters are like the clay they work with! Can what is made say to the one who made it,“ You didn’t make me”? Can the pot say to the potter,“ You don’t know anything”?

You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay, that the thing made should say of its maker,“ He did not make me”; or the thing formed say of him who formed it,“ He has no understanding”?

How foolish can you be? He is the Potter, and he is certainly greater than you, the clay! Should the created thing say of the one who made it,“ He didn’t make me”? Does a jar ever say,“ The potter who made me is stupid”?

You have turned things around, as if the potter were the same as the clay. How can what is made say about its maker,“ He didn’t make me”? How can what is formed say about the one who formed it,“ He doesn’t understand what he’s doing”?

You turn things around! Shall the potter be considered as equal with the clay, That what is made would say to its maker,“ He did not make me”; Or what is formed say to him who formed it,“ He has no understanding”?

Surely you have things turned around! Shall the potter be esteemed as the clay; For shall the thing made say of him who made it,“ He did not make me”? Or shall the thing formed say of him who formed it,“ He has no understanding”?

Ye turn things upside down! Shall the potter be esteemed as clay; that the thing made should say of him that made it, He made me not; or the thing formed say of him that formed it, He hath no understanding?

Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?

Your thinking is perverse! Should the potter be regarded as clay? Should the thing made say about its maker,“ He didn’t make me”? Or should the pottery say about the potter,“ He doesn’t understand”?

You will say then to me,“ Why does he still find fault? For who withstands his will?”But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed ask him who formed it,“ Why did you make me like this?”Or hasn’t the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel for honor, and another for dishonor?

Consider, you senseless among the people; you fools, when will you be wise?He who implanted the ear, won’t he hear? He who formed the eye, won’t he see?

The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,“ Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear my words.”Then I went down to the potter’s house, and behold, he was making something on the wheels.When the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.Then Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,“ House of Israel, can’t I do with you as this potter?” says Yahweh.“ Behold, as the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, house of Israel.At the instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it;if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them.At the instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they not obey my voice, then I will repent of the good with which I said I would benefit them.

But now, Yahweh, you are our Father. We are the clay and you our potter. We all are the work of your hand.

Woe to him who strives with his Maker— a clay pot among the clay pots of the earth! Shall the clay ask him who fashions it,‘ What are you making?’ or your work,‘ He has no hands?’Woe to him who says to a father,‘ What have you become the father of?’ or to a mother,‘ What have you given birth to?’”Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel and his Maker says:“ You ask me about the things that are to come, concerning my sons, and you command me concerning the work of my hands!

Behold, Yahweh makes the earth empty, makes it waste, turns it upside down, and scatters its inhabitants.
