Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.”

And He said,“ Go, and tell this people:‘ Keep on listening, but do not understand; And keep on looking, but do not gain knowledge.’Make the hearts of this people insensitive, Their ears dull, And their eyes blind, So that they will not see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their hearts, And return and be healed.”

We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where He is from.”The man answered and said to them,“ Well, here is the amazing thing, that you do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes!We know that God does not listen to sinners; but if someone is God fearing and does His will, He listens to him.Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind.If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.”They answered him,“ You were born entirely in sins, and yet you are teaching us?” So they put him out.

For it is written:“ I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the understanding of those who have understanding, I will confound.”Where is the wise person? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made foolish the wisdom of the world?For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness,but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Will I not on that day,” declares the Lord,“ Eliminate wise men from Edom, And understanding from the mountain of Esau?

saying,‘ Go to this people and say,“ You will keep on hearing, and will not understand; And you will keep on seeing, and will not perceive;For the hearts of this people have become insensitive, And with their ears they hardly hear, And they have closed their eyes; Otherwise they might see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart and return, And I would heal them.” ’

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened.Claiming to be wise, they became fools,

Be delayed and horrified, Blind yourselves and be blind; They become drunk, but not with wine, They stagger, but not with intoxicating drink.For the Lord has poured over you a spirit of deep sleep, He has shut your eyes— the prophets; And He has covered your heads— the seers.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the sight of God. For it is written:“ He is the one who catches the wise by their craftiness”;

And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a depraved mind, to do those things that are not proper,

Then the spirit of the Egyptians will be demoralized within them; And I will confuse their strategy, So that they will resort to idols and ghosts of the dead, And to mediums and spiritists.
