Then the Lord said,“ Because this people approaches Me with their words And honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me, And their reverence for Me consists of the commandment of men that is taught;

主說：「因為這子民嘴上親近我，用嘴唇尊重我，他們的心卻遠離我；他們敬畏我，不過是遵行人所教導的規條；

主曰、斯民以口親我、以脣尊我、而心則遠我、彼之畏我、乃從人所授之命耳、

主曰、斯民以口舌附我、言則敬我、而心則遠我、其敬畏我者、苟隨流俗而已。

主曰、此民但以口親近我、以唇尊敬我、而心則遠離我、其敬畏我者、不過守習學世人所傳之誡而已、

The Lord says:“ These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.

The Lord says,“ These people worship me only with their words. They honor me by what they say. But their hearts are far away from me. Their worship doesn’t mean anything to me. They teach nothing but human rules that they have been taught.

And the Lord said:“ Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,

And so the Lord says,“ These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man made rules learned by rote.

The Lord said: These people approach me with their speeches to honor me with lip-service, yet their hearts are far from me, and human rules direct their worship of me.

Therefore the Lord said:“ Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,

And the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw nigh unto me, and with their mouth and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men which hath been taught them;

The Lord said: Because these people approach Me with their mouths to honor Me with lip-service— yet their hearts are far from Me, and their worship consists of man-made rules learned by rote—

Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near[ me] with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

The sovereign master says,“ These people say they are loyal to me; they say wonderful things about me, but they are not really loyal to me. Their worship consists of nothing but man- made ritual.

The Lord said,“ Because this people draws near with their mouth and honors me with their lips, but they have removed their heart far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men which has been taught;

and saw that some of His disciples were eating their bread with unholy hands, that is, unwashed.( For the Pharisees and all the other Jews do not eat unless they carefully wash their hands, thereby holding firmly to the tradition of the elders;and when they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they completely cleanse themselves; and there are many other things which they have received as traditions to firmly hold, such as the washing of cups, pitchers, and copper pots.)And the Pharisees and the scribes* asked Him,“ Why do Your disciples not walk in accordance with the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unholy hands?”But He said to them,“ Rightly did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written:‘ This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me.And in vain do they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.”He was also saying to them,“ You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition.For Moses said,‘ Honor your father and your mother’; and,‘ The one who speaks evil of father or mother, is certainly to be put to death’;but you say,‘ If a person says to his father or his mother, whatever I have that would help you is Corban( that is, given to God),’you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother;thereby invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that.”

You have planted them, they have also taken root; They grow, they have also produced fruit. You are near to their lips But far from their mind.

And they come to you as people come, and sit before you as My people and hear your words, but they do not do them; for they do the lustful desires expressed by their mouth, and their heart follows their unlawful gain.And behold, you are to them like a love song by one who has a beautiful voice and plays well on an instrument; for they hear your words but they do not practice them.So when it comes— as it certainly will— then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

Yet in spite of all this her treacherous sister Judah did not return to Me with all her heart, but rather in deception,” declares the Lord.

Yet they seek Me day by day and delight to know My ways, As a nation that has done righteousness And has not forsaken the ordinance of their God. They ask Me for just decisions, They delight in the nearness of God.‘ Why have we fasted and You do not see? Why have we humbled ourselves and You do not notice?’ Behold, on the day of your fast you find your desire, And oppress all your workers.

“ Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”And He answered and said to them,“ Why do you yourselves also break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?For God said,‘ Honor your father and mother,’ and,‘ The one who speaks evil of father or mother is to be put to death.’But you say,‘ Whoever says to his father or mother,“ Whatever I have that would help you has been given to God,”he is not to honor his father or mother.’ And by this you have invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition.You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy about you, by saying:‘ This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me.And in vain do they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”

Do not add to His words Or He will rebuke you, and you will be proved a liar.

( which all refer to things destined to perish with use)— in accordance with the commandments and teachings of man?

“ Hear this, house of Jacob, who are named Israel And who came from the waters of Judah, Who swear by the name of the Lord And invoke the God of Israel, But not in truth nor in righteousness.For they name themselves after the holy city, And lean on the God of Israel; The Lord of armies is His name.

For you have only deceived yourselves; for it is you who sent me to the Lord your God, saying,“ Pray for us to the Lord our God; and whatever the Lord our God says, tell us so, and we will do it.”

and said to Jeremiah the prophet,“ Please let our pleading come before you, and pray for us to the Lord your God for all this remnant— since we have been left only a few out of many, just as your own eyes now see us—that the Lord your God will tell us the way in which we should walk, and the thing that we should do.”Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them,“ I have heard you. Behold, I am going to pray to the Lord your God in accordance with your words; and I will tell you the whole message which the Lord gives you as an answer. I will not withhold a word from you.”

And although they say,‘ As the Lord lives,’ Certainly they swear falsely.”

Hezekiah became king when he was twenty five years old; and he reigned for twenty nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Abijah, the daughter of Zechariah.He did what was right in the sight of the Lord, in accordance with everything that his father David had done.In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them.He brought in the priests and the Levites and gathered them into the public square on the east.Then he said to them,“ Listen to me, you Levites. Consecrate yourselves now, and consecrate the house of the Lord, the God of your fathers, and carry the uncleanness out of the holy place.For our fathers have been unfaithful and have done evil in the sight of the Lord our God, and they have abandoned Him and turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the Lord, and have turned their backs.They have also shut the doors of the porch and extinguished the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place to the God of Israel.Therefore the wrath of the Lord was against Judah and Jerusalem, and He has made them an object of terror, of horror, and of hissing, as you see with your own eyes.For behold, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons, our daughters, and our wives are in captivity because of this.Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the Lord God of Israel, so that His burning anger may turn away from us.My sons, do not be negligent now, for the Lord has chosen you to stand before Him, to serve Him, and to be His ministers and burn incense.”Then the Levites arose: Mahath the son of Amasai and Joel the son of Azariah, from the sons of the Kohathites; and from the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi and Azariah the son of Jehallelel; and from the Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah and Eden the son of Joah;and from the sons of Elizaphan, Shimri and Jeiel; and from the sons of Asaph, Zechariah and Mattaniah;and from the sons of Heman, Jehiel and Shimei; and from the sons of Jeduthun, Shemaiah and Uzziel.They assembled their brothers, consecrated themselves, and went in to cleanse the house of the Lord, according to the commandment of the king by the words of the Lord.So the priests went into the inner part of the house of the Lord to cleanse it, and they brought every unclean thing which they found in the temple of the Lord out to the courtyard of the house of the Lord. Then the Levites received it to carry out to the Kidron Valley.Now they began the consecration on the first day of the first month, and on the eighth day of the month they entered the porch of the Lord. Then they consecrated the house of the Lord in eight days, and finished on the sixteenth day of the first month.Then they went in to King Hezekiah and said,“ We have cleansed the whole house of the Lord, the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the table of the showbread with all of its utensils.Moreover, all the utensils which King Ahaz had discarded during his reign in his unfaithfulness, we have prepared and consecrated; and behold, they are before the altar of the Lord.”Then King Hezekiah got up early and assembled the princes of the city, and went up to the house of the Lord.They brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats as a sin offering for the kingdom, the sanctuary, and Judah. And he ordered the priests, the sons of Aaron, to offer them on the altar of the Lord.So they slaughtered the bulls, and the priests took the blood and sprinkled it on the altar. They also slaughtered the rams and sprinkled the blood on the altar; they slaughtered the lambs as well, and sprinkled the blood on the altar.Then they brought the male goats of the sin offering before the king and the assembly, and they laid their hands on them.The priests slaughtered them and purified the altar with their blood to atone for all Israel, because the king ordered the burnt offering and the sin offering for all Israel.He then stationed the Levites in the house of the Lord with cymbals, harps, and lyres, according to the command of David and of Gad, the king’s seer, and of Nathan the prophet; for the command was from the Lord through His prophets.The Levites stood with the musical instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.Then Hezekiah gave the order to offer the burnt offering on the altar. When the burnt offering began, the song to the Lord also began with the trumpets, accompanied by the instruments of David, king of Israel.While the whole assembly worshiped, the singers also sang and the trumpets sounded; all this continued until the burnt offering was finished.Now at the completion of the burnt offerings, the king and all who were present with him bowed down and worshiped.Moreover, King Hezekiah and the officials ordered the Levites to sing praises to the Lord with the words of David and Asaph the seer. So they sang praises with joy, and bowed down and worshiped.Then Hezekiah said,“ Now that you have consecrated yourselves to the Lord, come forward and bring sacrifices and thanksgiving offerings to the house of the Lord.” So the assembly brought sacrifices and thanksgiving offerings, and everyone who was willing brought burnt offerings.

Hear a just cause, Lord, give Your attention to my cry; Listen to my prayer, which is not from deceitful lips.

I send it against a godless nation And commission it against the people of My fury To capture spoils and to seize plunder, And to trample them down like mud in the streets.
