故我必行異跡於民間、神妙莫測、智者窒其慧、明者塞其聰、

故我必待斯民以奇異、奇異又奇異、使其智慧者喪智慧、明哲者失明哲、○

Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.”

So once more I will shock these people with many wonderful acts. I will destroy the wisdom of those who think they are so wise. I will do away with the cleverness of those who think they are so smart.”

Because of this, I will once again astound these hypocrites with amazing wonders. The wisdom of the wise will pass away, and the intelligence of the intelligent will disappear.”

Therefore, I will again confound these people with wonder after wonder. The wisdom of their wise will vanish, and the perception of their perceptive will be hidden.

Therefore behold, I will once again deal marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous; And the wisdom of their wise men will perish, And the understanding of their men who have understanding will be concealed.”

Therefore I will again do an amazing thing for these people– an absolutely extraordinary deed. Wise men will have nothing to say, the sages will have no explanations.”

“ Look among the nations, and see; wonder and be astounded. For I am doing a work in your days that you would not believe if told.

For the Lord will rise up as on Mount Perazim; as in the Valley of Gibeon he will be roused; to do his deed— strange is his deed! and to work his work— alien is his work!

Concerning Edom. Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished?

And he said,“ Go, and say to this people:“‘ Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”

We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from.”The man answered,“ Why, this is an amazing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes.We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”They answered him,“ You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they cast him out.

For it is written,“ I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles,but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Will I not on that day, declares the Lord, destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of Mount Esau?

Jesus said,“ For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.”Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him,“ Are we also blind?”Jesus said to them,“ If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say,‘ We see,’ your guilt remains.

For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”

Even the stork in the heavens knows her times, and the turtledove, swallow, and crane keep the time of their coming, but my people know not the rules of the Lord.“ How can you say,‘ We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us’? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes has made it into a lie.The wise men shall be put to shame; they shall be dismayed and taken; behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord, so what wisdom is in them?

He catches the wise in their own craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are brought to a quick end.

The princes of Zoan are utterly foolish; the wisest counselors of Pharaoh give stupid counsel. How can you say to Pharaoh,“ I am a son of the wise, a son of ancient kings”?Where then are your wise men? Let them tell you that they might know what the Lord of hosts has purposed against Egypt.The princes of Zoan have become fools, and the princes of Memphis are deluded; those who are the cornerstones of her tribes have made Egypt stagger.The Lord has mingled within her a spirit of confusion, and they will make Egypt stagger in all its deeds, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

“‘ Go to this people, and say,“ You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive.”For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.Claiming to be wise, they became fools,

Astonish yourselves and be astonished; blind yourselves and be blind! Be drunk, but not with wine; stagger, but not with strong drink!For the Lord has poured out upon you a spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes( the prophets), and covered your heads( the seers).

For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written,“ He catches the wise in their craftiness,”

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

and the spirit of the Egyptians within them will be emptied out, and I will confound their counsel; and they will inquire of the idols and the sorcerers, and the mediums and the necromancers;
