「在太陽、月亮和星辰中將有徵兆出現；在地上，因海洋的咆哮和翻騰，列國的人就驚慌失措，陷入困惑混亂之中；人們預料到將要臨到世界的事，就嚇得魂不附體；因為諸天的各勢力都將被震動。

我但以理為此精疲力竭，病了幾天；然後起來辦理王的事務。我因這異象而驚恐，無法領悟它。

「這事到此結束。至於我但以理，我的意念使我極其惶恐，臉色也變了，但我卻把這事存在心裡。」

希勒加的兒子宮廷總管以利亞敬，書記舍伯納，以及亞薩的兒子史官約亞，都撕裂衣服來到希西加那裡，把將軍的話告訴了他。

主耶和華賜給了我門徒的口舌，使我知道怎樣用話語扶助疲乏的人。他每天清晨喚醒我，喚醒我的耳朵，使我能像門徒那樣地聽。

禍哉！亞述，我怒氣的棍！他們手中的杖就是我的憤怒。我要派遣他去攻擊一個不敬虔的國家，吩咐他去攻打我所惱怒的子民，擄財掠貨，踐踏他們，如同踐踏街上的泥土。
