They won’t trust in the altars they made with their own hands. They won’t pay any attention to the poles they used to worship the female god named Asherah. And they won’t depend on the incense altars they made with their own fingers.

They will no longer look to their idols for help or worship what their own hands have made. They will never again bow down to their Asherah poles or worship at the pagan shrines they have built.

Your carved images I will also cut off, And your sacred pillars from your midst; You shall no more worship the work of your hands;I will pluck your wooden images from your midst; Thus I will destroy your cities.

Their land is also full of idols; They worship the work of their own hands, That which their own fingers have made.

Then it shall be for a man to burn, For he will take some of it and warm himself; Yes, he kindles it and bakes bread; Indeed he makes a god and worships it; He makes it a carved image, and falls down to it.

But you shall destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images

“ It shall be in that day,” says the Lord of hosts,“ that I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they shall no longer be remembered. I will also cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to depart from the land.

He also removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom was quiet under him.

Israel empties his vine; He brings forth fruit for himself. According to the multitude of his fruit He has increased the altars; According to the bounty of his land They have embellished his sacred pillars.Their heart is divided; Now they are held guilty. He will break down their altars; He will ruin their sacred pillars.

But the idols He shall utterly abolish.They shall go into the holes of the rocks, And into the caves of the earth, From the terror of the Lord And the glory of His majesty, When He arises to shake the earth mightily.In that day a man will cast away his idols of silver And his idols of gold, Which they made, each for himself to worship, To the moles and bats,To go into the clefts of the rocks, And into the crags of the rugged rocks, From the terror of the Lord And the glory of His majesty, When He arises to shake the earth mightily.

When Ephraim spoke, trembling, He exalted himself in Israel; But when he offended through Baal worship, he died.Now they sin more and more, And have made for themselves molded images, Idols of their silver, according to their skill; All of it is the work of craftsmen. They say of them,“ Let the men who sacrifice kiss the calves!”

“ I will consume man and beast; I will consume the birds of the heavens, The fish of the sea, And the stumbling blocks along with the wicked. I will cut off man from the face of the land,” Says the Lord.

Return to Him against whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.For in that day every man shall throw away his idols of silver and his idols of gold— sin, which your own hands have made for yourselves.

For they shall be ashamed of the terebinth trees Which you have desired; And you shall be embarrassed because of the gardens Which you have chosen.

And no one considers in his heart, Nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say,“ I have burned half of it in the fire, Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals; I have roasted meat and eaten it; And shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?”He feeds on ashes; A deceived heart has turned him aside; And he cannot deliver his soul, Nor say,“ Is there not a lie in my right hand?”

They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence, and the incense altars which were above them he cut down; and the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images he broke in pieces, and made dust of them and scattered it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

“ They set up kings, but not by Me; They made princes, but I did not acknowledge them. From their silver and gold They made idols for themselves— That they might be cut off.Your calf is rejected, O Samaria! My anger is aroused against them— How long until they attain to innocence?For from Israel is even this: A workman made it, and it is not God; But the calf of Samaria shall be broken to pieces.

“ Ephraim shall say,‘ What have I to do anymore with idols?’ I have heard and observed him. I am like a green cypress tree; Your fruit is found in Me.”

And so he did in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, as far as Naphtali and all around, with axes.When he had broken down the altars and the wooden images, had beaten the carved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.

Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols.
