因為他們所負的重軛和肩頭上的杖，並欺壓他們人的棍，你都已經折斷，好像在米甸的日子一樣。

耶和華的使者出去，在亞述營中殺了十八萬五千人。清早有人起來一看，都是死屍了。亞述王西拿基立就拔營回去，住在尼尼微。一日在他的神－尼斯洛廟裏叩拜，他兒子亞得米勒和沙利色用刀殺了他，就逃到亞拉臘地。他兒子以撒哈頓接續他作王。

現在我必從你頸項上折斷他的軛，扭開他的繩索。

因此，主－萬軍之耶和華必使亞述王的肥壯人變為瘦弱，在他的榮華之下必有火着起，如同焚燒一樣。以色列的光必如火；他的聖者必如火焰。在一日之間，將亞述王的荊棘和蒺藜焚燒淨盡；又將他樹林和肥田的榮耀全然燒盡，好像拿軍旗的昏過去一樣。他林中剩下的樹必稀少，就是孩子也能寫其數。

耶和華必使人聽他威嚴的聲音，又顯他降罰的膀臂和他怒中的忿恨，並吞滅的火焰與霹雷、暴風、冰雹。亞述人必因耶和華的聲音驚惶；耶和華必用杖擊打他。耶和華必將命定的杖加在他身上；每打一下，人必擊鼓彈琴。打仗的時候，耶和華必掄起手來，與他交戰。原來陀斐特又深又寬，早已為王預備好了；其中堆的是火與許多木柴。耶和華的氣如一股硫磺火使他着起來。

當那日，亞述王要在挪伯歇兵，向錫安女子的山－就是耶路撒冷的山－掄手攻他。看哪，主－萬軍之耶和華以驚嚇削去樹枝；長高的必被砍下，高大的必被伐倒。稠密的樹林，他要用鐵器砍下；黎巴嫩的樹木必被大能者伐倒。

所以，主－萬軍之耶和華如此說：「住錫安我的百姓啊，亞述王雖然用棍擊打你，又照埃及的樣子舉杖攻擊你，你卻不要怕他。因為還有一點點時候，向你們發的忿恨就要完畢，我的怒氣要向他發作，使他滅亡。萬軍之耶和華要興起鞭來攻擊他，好像在俄立磐石那裏殺戮米甸人一樣。耶和華的杖要向海伸出，把杖舉起，像在埃及一樣。到那日，亞述王的重擔必離開你的肩頭；他的軛必離開你的頸項；那軛也必因肥壯的緣故撐斷。」

耶和華折斷了惡人的杖，轄制人的圭，

亞述人必倒在刀下，並非人的刀；有刀要將他吞滅，並非人的刀。他必逃避這刀；他的少年人必成為服苦的。他的磐石必因驚嚇挪去；他的首領必因大旗驚惶。這是那有火在錫安、有爐在耶路撒冷的耶和華說的。

主在錫安山和耶路撒冷成就他一切工作的時候，主說：「我必罰亞述王自大的心和他高傲眼目的榮耀。」

你和你的軍隊，並同着你的列國人，都必倒在以色列的山上。我必將你給各類的鷙鳥和田野的走獸作食物。

唉！多民鬨嚷，好像海浪匉訇；列邦奔騰，好像猛水滔滔；列邦奔騰，好像多水滔滔；但神斥責他們，他們就遠遠逃避，又被追趕，如同山上的風前糠，又如暴風前的旋風土。到晚上有驚嚇，未到早晨他們就沒有了。這是擄掠我們之人所得的分，是搶奪我們之人的報應。
