鵜鶘和刺蝟必佔據那裡，貓頭鷹和烏鴉必在那裡做窩。耶和華要用準繩和線錘丈量以東，使它空虛混沌。以東沒有一個顯貴可以做王，那裡所有的首領全都消失。那裡的宮殿荊棘叢生，蒺藜、刺草遍佈堅城，成了野狗的巢穴和鴕鳥的住處。在那裡，豺狼和曠野的其他走獸出沒，野山羊對叫，夜間的怪物棲息，找到安歇之處。貓頭鷹要在那裡做窩，產卵，孵化，把幼鳥保護在翅膀底下，鷙鳥也成雙成對地聚集在那裡。

這時，有一位大力天使舉起一塊像大磨石的石頭扔進海裡，說：「巴比倫大城也必這樣被用力扔下去，消失得無影無蹤。在你那裡，再也聽不見彈琴作樂、鳴笛吹號的聲音了，再也找不到能工巧匠了，再也聽不到推磨的聲音了，再也看不到閃耀的燈光了，再也聽不見新婚夫婦的歡笑聲了。因為你的商人曾經趾高氣揚，你的邪術曾經迷惑萬國，

毀滅天下的大山——巴比倫啊，我與你為敵，我要伸手攻擊你，把你從懸崖上滾下去，使你化為灰燼。這是耶和華說的。再無人用你的石頭做房角石或基石，你要永遠荒涼。這是耶和華說的。

我要像懲罰撒瑪利亞和亞哈家一樣懲罰耶路撒冷。我要潔淨耶路撒冷，就像人擦淨盤子後倒扣過來。

接著又一位天使說：「巴比倫大城倒塌了！倒塌了！她曾引誘萬民喝她那淫亂的烈酒。」

他用強有力的聲音喊著說：「巴比倫大城倒塌了！倒塌了！她成了鬼魔的住處、各樣污鬼的監獄和一切可憎的不潔鳥獸的牢籠！

海水漲溢，洶湧的波濤淹沒了巴比倫。她的城邑淪為乾旱的荒漠，杳無人跡。
