Jesse’s family is like a tree that has been cut down. A new little tree will grow from its stump. From its roots a Branch will grow and produce fruit.

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.

Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot— yes, a new Branch bearing fruit from the old root.

Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit.

Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch from his roots will bear fruit.

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.

And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots shall bear fruit.

Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit.

And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

A shoot will grow out of Jesse’s root stock, a bud will sprout from his roots.

A shoot will come out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots will bear fruit.

“ The days are coming,” declares the Lord,“ when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.

Tell him this is what the Lord Almighty says:‘ Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the Lord.

After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him:‘ I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’“ From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.

Then one of the elders said to me,“ Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

“‘ Listen, High Priest Joshua, you and your associates seated before you, who are men symbolic of things to come: I am going to bring my servant, the Branch.

He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

“ I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

“‘ In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; he will do what is just and right in the land.

And again, Isaiah says,“ The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; in him the Gentiles will hope.”

In that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel.

In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious.

David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa,Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah,Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah,and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,Zerubbabel the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor,Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Elihud,Elihud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob,and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.

“ Whose son are you, young man?” Saul asked him. David said,“ I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem.”

( as it is written in the Law of the Lord,“ Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”),and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord:“ a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah.Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:“ Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace.For my eyes have seen your salvation,which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”

The women living there said,“ Naomi has a son!” And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.
