实际上，住在耶路撒冷的人和他们的首领们都不认识这一位，也不明白每逢安息日所诵读的先知们的话，就把他定罪，从而应验了这些话。他们虽然找不到处死他的任何理由，还是求彼拉多杀了他。当他们做完了经上所记载的一切有关耶稣的事，有些人就把他从木头上取下来，安放在墓穴里。但是神使他从死人中复活了！

看哪！你必定听说过亚述列王向各国所行的，就是把它们灭绝净尽；难道只有你能得解救吗？我祖先所毁灭的，有歌撒、哈兰和利色，还有在提拉撒的伊甸子孙，那些国的神明解救他们了吗？哈马的王、亚珥拔的王，拉音、西法瓦音、希拿、以瓦的众王，如今都在哪里呢？’”

不要让希西加唆哄你们，说：耶和华必解救我们。列国的神明中，有哪一个曾解救自己的国土脱离亚述王的手呢？哈马和亚珥拔的神在哪里呢？西法瓦音的神在哪里呢？难道他们曾解救撒马利亚脱离我的手吗？这些国所有的神明中，有哪一个曾解救自己的国土脱离我的手呢？难道耶和华会解救耶路撒冷脱离我的手吗？’”
