神把他們所求的賜給他們，卻使災病臨到他們身上。

耶和華必使人聽見他威嚴的聲音，在烈怒、吞滅一切火燄、大雨、暴風和冰雹之中，又使人看見他那降下來的膀臂。亞述人必因耶和華的聲音驚惶；耶和華要用杖擊打他們。耶和華必把刑罰的杖加在他們身上，每打一下，都有擊鼓和彈琴的聲音；耶和華在爭戰的時候，必揮動著手與他們爭戰。因為陀斐特那燒著的火早已安排好了，是為君王預備的，又深又寬；其中所堆的，是火和許多的柴；耶和華的氣像一股硫磺火，把它燃點起來。

耶和華就差派一位使者，進入亞述王的軍營中，把所有英勇的戰士、官長和將帥，盡都消滅了。亞述王滿面羞愧返回本國去了。他進入自己的神廟的時候，他親生的兒子在那裡用刀把他殺了。

萬軍之耶和華起了誓，說：“我怎樣想，事就怎樣成就；我怎樣計劃，事就怎樣立定，就是在我的地上粉碎亞述人，在我的山上踐踏他；他所加的軛必離開以色列人，他所加的重擔必離開以色列人的肩頭。”這就是對全地所定的旨意，就是向列國伸出的手。因為萬軍之耶和華決定的事，誰能阻攔呢？他的手伸了出來，誰能使他收回呢？

“到那日，雅各的榮耀必衰落，他肥胖的身體必消瘦。

但你敵人的數量必多如灰塵，那些強暴者的數量也多如被吹散的糠秕，這必在頃刻之間，突然發生。萬軍之耶和華必用雷轟、地震、大聲、旋風、暴風和吞滅人的火燄來懲罰他們。那時，所有攻擊亞利伊勒的列國眾軍，就是所有攻擊亞利伊勒和它的堡壘，以及迫害它的，必如夢景，如夜間的異象。又像飢餓的人在夢中吃飯，醒了以後，仍然覺得飢餓；又像口渴的人在夢中喝水，醒了以後，仍然覺得口渴，心裡還是想喝。那攻打錫安山的列國眾軍，也必這樣。

那時羊羔必來吃草，像在自己的草場一樣；富裕者的荒場被寄居者隨意吃用。

因為你向我發烈怒，又因你的狂傲達到我耳中，我要把鈎子放進你的鼻孔，把嚼環放進你的嘴裡，使你從你來的路上回去。

因為戰士在戰爭喧嚷中所穿的靴，和輥在血中的袍，都必燒毀，成了燒火的燃料。

於是耶和華的使者出去，在亞述營中擊殺了十八萬五千人；到了早晨，有人起來，所見的都是死屍。

他不歸榮耀給神，所以主的使者立刻擊打他，他被蟲咬，就斷了氣。

以賽亞對他們說：“要對你們的主人這樣說：‘耶和華這樣說：你不要因為聽見亞述王的僕人褻瀆我的話而害怕。看哪！我必使靈進入他裡面，以致他聽見風聲就歸回本地；我必使他在那裡倒在刀下。’”

因此，主必使大河又強又大的水臨到他們，就是亞述王和他一切威榮，水必漲起來，高過所有的水道；水要氾濫，漫過所有的河岸；

耶和華說：“現在我要起來，現在我要興起，現在我要被人尊崇。你們所懷的是糠秕，所生的是碎稭；我的氣息必像火一般吞滅你們。眾民必像燃燒的石灰，又像被割下的荊棘，在火中焚燒。遠方的人哪！你們要聽我所作的事；近處的人哪！你們要承認我的大能。”在錫安的罪人都恐懼；戰兢抓住了不敬虔的人：“我們中間誰能與吞滅一切的火同住呢？我們中間誰能與不斷燃燒的火同住呢？”

又把他樹林和豐盛果園的榮美全部滅盡，包括靈魂和身體，好像一個患病的人漸漸虛弱一樣。
