你們的地土荒涼，你們的城市給火燒燬，你們的田地眼睜睜地被外族人侵吞，一片荒涼、像所多瑪之傾覆。

但這人民卻被掠劫被搶掠；他們都被機檻捉住於洞穴中，被藏沒於監牢裏；他們做被掠物，而無人援救；做被擄者，而無人說『要交還！』你們中間誰肯側耳聽這個，誰肯留心聽而聽、以備將來呢？誰將雅各交給搶掠者，將以色列交給掠劫者呢？豈不是永恆主、他們所得罪的，他們不肯行他的道路，不聽從其指教的那位麼？因此他將他怒氣之猛烈和爭戰之兇猛傾倒在以色列身上；這在他四圍如火𤏲起，他還不知，燒着他，他也不介意。

於是永恆主向以色列人發怒，不斷地將他們交在亞蘭王哈薛手裏、交在哈薛的兒子便哈達手裏。約哈斯求永恆主的情面，永恆主就聽他，因為見以色列人所受的壓迫，見亞蘭王怎樣地壓迫他們。（永恆主賜給以色列人一位拯救者，使他們從亞蘭人手下擺脫出來，所以以色列人仍像素常一樣、安居在家裏。然而他們不離開耶羅波安的家的罪、耶羅波安使以色列人犯的那罪，他們仍然直行；並且在撒瑪利亞仍有亞舍拉神木立着。）因此亞蘭王不給約哈斯留下別的，只留下五十匹駿馬、十輛戰車、一萬步兵；因為亞蘭王殺滅了他們，使他們像塵土被踐踏。

亞述王普勒都常來攻打以色列地；米拿現給了普勒一千擔銀子、請普勒一手幫助、來鞏固國權於手中。

儘約哈斯在位的年日，亞蘭王哈薛總是壓迫着以色列人。
