Foreigners sap his strength, but he does not realize it. His hair is sprinkled with gray, but he does not notice.

People from other lands make them weaker and weaker. But they don’t realize it. Their hair is becoming gray. But they don’t even notice it.

Strangers devour his strength, and he knows it not; gray hairs are sprinkled upon him, and he knows it not.

他們種的是風，收的是暴風。他們的莊稼長不出穗子，結不出籽粒，就是有收成，也要被外族人吃掉。

你會說：「人打我，我不痛；人揍我，我不知。什麼時候醒了，再乾一杯！」

沒有人關心義人的死亡，沒有人明白虔誠人的去世。其實義人去世是脫離災難。

你們的土地荒涼，城邑化為灰燼。你們親眼目睹自己的田園被外族人侵吞、毀壞、變成不毛之地。

但這些百姓飽受劫掠，都被困在坑中，囚在監內。他們淪為俘虜，無人搭救；被當作戰利品擄走，無人追回。你們當中誰肯專心聽呢？以後誰肯留心傾聽呢？誰把雅各交給了擄掠者，使以色列任人劫掠？難道不是被我們得罪的耶和華嗎？他們不肯遵行祂的道，也不聽從祂的訓誨。所以，祂把烈怒和戰火傾倒在他們身上。他們被火包圍，卻不明白；被烈火焚身，卻不在乎。

因此，耶和華向以色列人發怒，屢次使他們敗在亞蘭王哈薛和他兒子便·哈達手中。約哈斯求耶和華開恩，耶和華看見亞蘭王非常殘暴地欺壓以色列人，便垂聽他的禱告，賜給以色列人一位拯救者，從亞蘭人手中救了他們。他們便像從前一樣安居樂業。但他們一如既往地犯罪，沒有離開耶羅波安家使以色列人犯的那些罪，在撒瑪利亞仍然保留著亞舍拉神像。亞蘭王像踐踏塵土一樣摧毀了約哈斯的軍隊。約哈斯只剩下五十名騎兵、十輛戰車和一萬步兵。
