Are there[ any] among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers?[ art] not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these[ things].

And the names of them[ were] Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister: and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus[ were] their names; Samaria[ is] Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah.

Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself[ thus]; Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed[ to the yoke]: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou[ art] the LORD my God.

And Tilgathpilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.For Ahaz took away a portion[ out] of the house of the LORD, and[ out] of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave[ it] unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: this[ is that] king Ahaz.

For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise[ is] incurable,[ and] thy wound[ is] grievous.[ There is] none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity;[ because] thy sins were increased.Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow[ is] incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity:[ because] thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.

In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God.They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward,[ saying], Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant[ that] shall not be forgotten.

Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.

O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.

Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time[ was] the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.

I will go[ and] return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of[ mine] hand hath gotten me this wealth.But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for[ it is] he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as[ it is] this day.

And tookest thy broidered garments, and coveredst them: and thou hast set mine oil and mine incense before them.

And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.

Return, ye backsliding children,[ and] I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou[ art] the LORD our God.Truly in vain[ is salvation hoped for] from the hills,[ and from] the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God[ is] the salvation of Israel.For shame hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.

Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.Let us lift up our heart with[ our] hands unto God in the heavens.We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.

This matter[ is] by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,And houses full of all good[ things], which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;[ Then] beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling[ was] with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and[ that] he appointeth over it whomsoever he will.
