He is the only one in Jeroboam’s family who will receive a decent burial, for he is the only one in whom the LORD God of Israel found anything good.The LORD will raise up a king over Israel who will cut off Jeroboam’s dynasty. It is ready to happen!The LORD will attack Israel, making it like a reed that sways in the water. He will remove Israel from this good land he gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they angered the LORD by making Asherah poles.He will hand Israel over to their enemies because of the sins which Jeroboam committed and which he made Israel commit.”

    In the twelfth year of King Ahaz’s reign over Judah, Hoshea son of Elah became king over Israel. He reigned in Samaria for nine years.He did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not to the same degree as the Israelite kings who preceded him.King Shalmaneser of Assyria threatened him; Hoshea became his subject and paid him tribute.The king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was planning a revolt. Hoshea had sent messengers to King So of Egypt and had not sent his annual tribute to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria arrested him and imprisoned him.

They might kill me and return to King Rehoboam of Judah.”After the king had consulted with his advisers, he made two golden calves. Then he said to the people,“ It is too much trouble for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look, Israel, here are your gods who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”He put one in Bethel and the other in Dan.This caused Israel to sin; the people went to Bethel and Dan to worship the calves.He built temples on the high places and appointed as priests people who were not Levites.Jeroboam inaugurated a festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the festival celebrated in Judah. On the altar in Bethel he offered sacrifices to the calves he had made. In Bethel he also appointed priests for the high places he had made.

So Saul took his sword and fell on it.When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his own sword and died with him.So Saul, his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men died together that day.When the men of Israel who were in the valley and across the Jordan saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled. The Philistines came and occupied them.
