But the more they were called, the more they went away from me. They sacrificed to the Baals and they burned incense to images.

Israel called to the Egyptians even as Israel was leaving them. They kept sacrificing to the Baals and burning offerings to idols.

The more the prophets called them, the more they went from them: they sacrificed unto the Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.

The more they called them, the more they departed from Me. They kept sacrificing to the Baals and burning offerings to idols.

your own iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together”, says Yahweh,“ who have burned incense on the mountains, and blasphemed me on the hills. Therefore I will first measure their work into their bosom.”

When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling. He exalted himself in Israel, but when he became guilty in Baal, he died.Now they sin more and more, and have made themselves molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen. They say of them,‘ They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves.’

My people are determined to turn from me. Though they call to the Most High, he certainly won’t exalt them.

“ Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says:‘ Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,“ Will you not receive instruction to listen to my words?” says Yahweh.

Yet many years you put up with them, and testified against them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet they would not listen. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

Then all the men who knew that their wives burned incense to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, even all the people who lived in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,“ As for the word that you have spoken to us in Yahweh’s name, we will not listen to you.But we will certainly perform every word that has gone out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

For it is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear Yahweh’s law;who tell the seers,“ Don’t see!” and the prophets,“ Don’t prophesy to us right things. Tell us pleasant things. Prophesy deceits.Get out of the way. Turn away from the path. Cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.”

Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel to Mount Carmel, and four hundred fifty of the prophets of Baal, and four hundred of the prophets of the Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.”

Yahweh said to Samuel,“ Listen to the voice of the people in all that they tell you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me as the king over them.According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so they also do to you.Now therefore listen to their voice. However you shall protest solemnly to them, and shall show them the way of the king who will reign over them.”

Yahweh, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place;but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until Yahweh’s wrath arose against his people, until there was no remedy.

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused!

Moses called to all Israel, and said to them: Your eyes have seen all that Yahweh did in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land;the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders.But Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.

Yet Yahweh testified to Israel, and to Judah, by every prophet, and every seer, saying,“ Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”Notwithstanding, they would not listen, but hardened their neck, like the neck of their fathers, who didn’t believe in Yahweh their God.They rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified to them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom Yahweh had commanded them that they should not do like them.They abandoned all the commandments of Yahweh their God, and made molten images for themselves, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served Baal.

The children of Israel again did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and served the Baals, the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines. They abandoned Yahweh, and didn’t serve him.

As if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him.He raised up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

“ You stiff- necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so you do.

But they refused to listen, and turned their backs, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.

This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.

He went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went up to the altar, to burn incense.

Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Yahweh of Armies says,‘ Return now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings;’ but they didn’t hear, nor listen to me, says Yahweh.

They abandoned Yahweh, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.

For we are a sweet aroma of Christ to God, in those who are saved and in those who perish:to the one a stench from death to death, to the other a sweet aroma from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?

The children of Israel did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and forgot Yahweh their God, and served the Baals and the Asheroth.
