他从以色列王室后裔中选出一人，与他立约，叫他起誓，并且把国中那些有势力的人掳去，使国衰微，不能再兴盛，唯有谨守条约他才可以继续存在。可是这人背叛了巴比伦王，差遣使者到埃及去，要得战马和大军。他能亨通吗？行这样事的人，怎能逃脱呢？他破坏条约，怎能逃脱呢？我指着我的永生起誓：他藐视了自己所起的誓，背弃了与王所立的约，因此他必死在巴比伦，就是那立他作王的巴比伦王的国家。这是耶和华的宣告。敌人建造围城的高墙，筑起攻城土垒要剪除多人的时候，法老率领大军和大队人马，还是不能帮助他作战。他藐视誓言，背弃条约；他已宣誓效忠，却又行了这一切事，所以他必不能逃脱。因此主耶和华这样说：我指着我的永生起誓：他既然藐视我的誓言，背弃我的约，我必使这罪归到他的头上。

就是悖逆、否认耶和华，转去不跟从我们的神，说欺压和背道的话，心里怀着谎言，随即说出来；公平被迫后退，公义站在远处；诚实在街上跌倒，正直不能进入。诚实缺乏，远离恶事的人反成为掠物。耶和华看见了，就看这为恶事（“就看这为恶事”或译：“很不喜悦”），因为一点公平也没有。

第三位天使吹号，就有一颗燃烧着的大星，好像火把一样，从天上落下来，落在江河的三分之一上，和众水的泉源上。这星名叫“苦堇”。众水的三分之一变为“苦堇”，因水变苦，就有许多人因为这水而死了。

因为万军之耶和华的葡萄园就是以色列家，他喜悦的树就是犹大人；他期望的是公平，但看到的只是流血的事；他期望的是公义，听到的只是哀叫声。

我看出你正在苦胆之中，邪恶捆绑着你。”
