He has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter, but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

“ I will make a permanent covenant with them: I will never turn away from doing good to them, and I will put fear of me in their hearts so they will never again turn away from me.

This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, the Lord says, I will put my laws on their hearts and write them on their minds,and I will never again remember their sins and their lawless acts.

But I will remember the covenant I made with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish a permanent covenant with you.Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your older and younger sisters. I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of your covenant.

“ Look, the days are coming”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of people and the seed of animals.

“ Look, the days are coming”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ when I will raise up a Righteous Branch for David. He will reign wisely as king and administer justice and righteousness in the land.

Pay attention and come to me; listen, so that you will live. I will make a permanent covenant with you on the basis of the faithful kindnesses of David.
