試思先祖亞伯拉罕、以所獲之極品什一贈之、其人之尊為何如耶、

爾試思之、先祖亞伯拉罕、取戰時所獲者十分之一、輸麥基洗德、則其尊為何若、

爾試思之、祖亞伯拉罕、以所獲者什取一以供之、則其人之尊貴何如、

Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the plunder!

Think how great Melchizedek was! Even our father Abraham gave him a tenth of what he had captured.

See how great this man was to whom Abraham the patriarch gave a tenth of the spoils!

Consider then how great this Melchizedek was. Even Abraham, the great patriarch of Israel, recognized this by giving him a tenth of what he had taken in battle.

Now consider how great this man was: even Abraham the patriarch gave a tenth of the plunder to him.

Now observe how great this man was to whom Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth of the choicest spoils.

諸兄弟乎！容我直言不諱、先祖大維逝且葬矣、其墓至今猶在。

天主又予之以割禮之約；故亞伯漢既生意灑格、第八日即為之行割禮；意灑格之於雅各伯、雅各伯之於十二族祖、亦復如是。族祖嫉若瑟、鬻之埃及、而天主偕之、

故無論猶太人也、希臘人也、奴也主也、男也女也、悉在基督耶穌之身、融為一體矣。夫爾等既屬基督即為亞伯漢之裔、亦即承恩諾之嗣子也。

蓋亞伯漢實為萬民之父。經曰：『吾使爾為萬邦之父』此之謂也。顧其所以能在天主之前為眾人之父者、亦曰篤信天主而已。蓋惟天主能予死者以生命、而出萬有於無有耳。亞伯漢於無望之中、懷無窮之望；且深信其必成萬邦之父、一如天主所示：「爾之苗裔、將同繁星」之金諾。

於是古經所載亞伯漢因信天主而成聖、且稱為「天主之友」云者、乃獲當然之補充、而厥義大備矣。

其受割之儀式、不過為因信成義之印證、而其信德則於未割之時、固已全具矣。因是亞伯漢乃為未受割而因信成義者之父、亦為既受割而能踵效其未割時所具之信德者之父也。蓋亞伯漢及其苗裔、承天主恩諾、得嗣大地者、非憑律法之制、乃緣信德之義。
