And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

Abraham was patient while he waited. Then he received what God promised him.

And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.

Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.

And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained the promise.

And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

And thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained the promise.

And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

And so by persevering, Abraham inherited the promise.

Thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

so that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and endurance inherit the promises.

And I will make you into a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing;And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

( as it is written:“ I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed, that is, God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that do not exist.In hope against hope he believed, so that he might become a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken,“ So shall your descendants be.”Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah’s womb;yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God,and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.Therefore it was also credited to him as righteousness.Now not for his sake only was it written that it was credited to him,but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, to us who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,He who was delivered over because of our wrongdoings, and was raised because of our justification.

But Abram said,“ Lord God, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”Abram also said,“ Since You have given me no son, one who has been born in my house is my heir.”Then behold, the word of the Lord came to him, saying,“ This man will not be your heir; but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.”And He took him outside and said,“ Now look toward the heavens and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” And He said to him,“ So shall your descendants be.”Then he believed in the Lord; and He credited it to him as righteousness.

Then the Lord answered me and said,“ Write down the vision And inscribe it clearly on tablets, So that one who reads it may run.For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hurries toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it delays, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay long.

So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him.Abraham named his son who was born to him, the son whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.Now Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.Sarah said,“ God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me.”And she said,“ Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have given birth to a son in his old age.”

But the sons of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly, and multiplied, and became exceedingly mighty, so that the land was filled with them.

I will bless her, and indeed I will give you a son by her. Then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.”Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart,“ Will a child be born to a man a hundred years old? And will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth to a child?”
