These all died in faith without receiving the things promised, but they saw them in the distance and welcomed them and acknowledged that they were strangers and foreigners on the earth.For those who speak in such a way make it clear that they are seeking a homeland.In fact, if they had been thinking of the land that they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.

for you have not yet come to the final stop and inheritance the LORD your God is giving you.

He handed the territory of nations over to them, and they took possession of what other peoples had produced,

He drove the nations out from before them; he assigned them their tribal allotments and allowed the tribes of Israel to settle down.

So when the LORD your God gives you relief from all the enemies who surround you in the land he is giving you as an inheritance, you must wipe out the memory of the Amalekites from under heaven– do not forget!

A long time passed after the LORD made Israel secure from all their enemies, and Joshua was very old.

Our ancestors received possession of it and brought it in with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out before our ancestors, until the time of David.
