So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.

My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands.Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.For the Lord grants wisdom! Therefore, I will always remind you about these things— even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught.And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live.

This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory.

Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets.And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe.

My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment. Hang on to them,

so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.

“ But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.

How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word.

And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said,“ My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you.

So be very careful to love the Lord your God.“ But if you turn away from him and cling to the customs of the survivors of these nations remaining among you, and if you intermarry with them,

For you will be successful if you carefully obey the decrees and regulations that the Lord gave to Israel through Moses. Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or lose heart!

My children, listen when your father corrects you. Pay attention and learn good judgment,for I am giving you good guidance. Don’t turn away from my instructions.For I, too, was once my father’s son, tenderly loved as my mother’s only child.My father taught me,“ Take my words to heart. Follow my commands, and you will live.

he added:“ Take to heart all the words of warning I have given you today. Pass them on as a command to your children so they will obey every word of these instructions.These instructions are not empty words— they are your life! By obeying them you will enjoy a long life in the land you will occupy when you cross the Jordan River.”

My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words.Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart,for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.

For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished.So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak?And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.

‘ You have eyes— can’t you see? You have ears— can’t you hear?’ Don’t you remember anything at all?

Don’t you understand even yet? Don’t you remember the 5,000 I fed with five loaves, and the baskets of leftovers you picked up?

Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise:“ Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.”

So be careful not to break the covenant the Lord your God has made with you. Do not make idols of any shape or form, for the Lord your God has forbidden this.

But soon it will be your turn to be disgraced. Come, drink and be exposed! Drink from the cup of the Lord’s judgment, and all your glory will be turned to shame.

“ Listen to me and remember what I say. The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies.”
