I urge you, dear brothers and sisters, to pay attention to what I have written in this brief exhortation.

Brothers and sisters, I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you quite briefly.

Brothers and sisters, I beg you to accept my word. It tells you to be faithful. Accept my word because I have written to you only a short letter.

I appeal to you, brothers, bear with my word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly.

Brothers and sisters, I urge you to receive this message of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly.

But I urge you, brothers and sisters, listen patiently to this word of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly.

And I appeal to you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation, for I have written to you in few words.

But I exhort you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation: for I have written unto you in few words.

Brothers, I urge you to receive this message of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly.

And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.

Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, bear with my message of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you briefly.

But I exhort you, brothers, endure the word of exhortation; for I have written to you in few words.

I have written and sent this short letter to you with the help of Silas, whom I commend to you as a faithful brother. My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace.

And so, dear brothers and sisters who belong to God and are partners with those called to heaven, think carefully about this Jesus whom we declare to be God’s messenger and High Priest.

Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters.Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.

Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God.You must warn each other every day, while it is still“ today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.

So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead,“ Come back to God!”

So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees.Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.Make sure that no one is immoral or godless like Esau, who traded his birthright as the firstborn son for a single meal.

So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.

Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true.Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.

As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it.

So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by means of his own blood.So let us go out to him, outside the camp, and bear the disgrace he bore.For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name.And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.

Notice what large letters I use as I write these closing words in my own handwriting.

That is why I am boldly asking a favor of you. I could demand it in the name of Christ because it is the right thing for you to do.But because of our love, I prefer simply to ask you. Consider this as a request from me— Paul, an old man and now also a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Now I, Paul, appeal to you with the gentleness and kindness of Christ— though I realize you think I am timid in person and bold only when I write from far away.

And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus.By his death, Jesus opened a new and life giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place.And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house,let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.Dear friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins.There is only the terrible expectation of God’s judgment and the raging fire that will consume his enemies.For anyone who refused to obey the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us.For we know the one who said,“ I will take revenge. I will pay them back.” He also said,“ The Lord will judge his own people.”It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.Think back on those early days when you first learned about Christ. Remember how you remained faithful even though it meant terrible suffering.Sometimes you were exposed to public ridicule and were beaten, and sometimes you helped others who were suffering the same things.You suffered along with those who were thrown into jail, and when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy. You knew there were better things waiting for you that will last forever.So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.“ For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.And my righteous ones will live by faith. But I will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away.”But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved.

God’s promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it.

Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise:“ Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.”This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain.Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.

So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.
