仰望耶穌、即始立我信而終成之者、彼思所將得之樂、不以凌辱為意、受十字架之苦、今坐於天主寶座之右、

而致景仰於耶穌乎？耶穌者、乃吾人信德之金聲玉振也。曩者彼為前途不可思議之神樂、

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Let us keep looking to Jesus. He is the one who started this journey of faith. And he is the one who completes the journey of faith. He paid no attention to the shame of the cross. He suffered there because of the joy he was looking forward to. Then he sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,

who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness— by whose stripes you were healed.

looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?”

who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.

“ And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write,‘ These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life:

“ Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say?‘ Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, saying,“ I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God,

Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach.

Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters.Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.

He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

So, when he had gone out, Jesus said,“ Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him.If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately.

And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”

And I will wait on the Lord, Who hides His face from the house of Jacob; And I will hope in Him.

“ Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.

And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,

searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

For David says concerning Him:‘ I foresaw the Lord always before my face, For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the Lord!

Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears,“ Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.

And the apostles said to the Lord,“ Increase our faith.”

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said:“ Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.

So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.

Then they spat in His face and beat Him; and others struck Him with the palms of their hands,saying,“ Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck You?”

Then He answered and told them,“ Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

And He said,“ Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

I gave My back to those who struck Me, And My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.“ For the Lord GOD will help Me; Therefore I will not be disgraced; Therefore I have set My face like a flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed.

And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying,“ He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.”The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine,and saying,“ If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying,“ If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said,“ Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope.For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Indeed He says,‘ It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’”Thus says the Lord, The Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One, To Him whom man despises, To Him whom the nation abhors, To the Servant of rulers:“ Kings shall see and arise, Princes also shall worship, Because of the Lord who is faithful, The Holy One of Israel; And He has chosen You.”

“ And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.

For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.

for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment.

“ Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

saying,“ I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and,“ What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”

so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord said to my Lord,“ Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

You know my reproach, my shame, and my dishonor; My adversaries are all before You.Reproach has broken my heart, And I am full of heaviness; I looked for someone to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.

“ I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord,“ who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me,“ Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.

But to which of the angels has He ever said:“ Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”?

partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated;

For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.

You have made him a little lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor, And set him over the works of Your hands.You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:“ Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me.In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure.Then I said,‘ Behold, I have come— in the volume of the book it is written of Me— to do Your will, O God.’”Previously saying,“ Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them”( which are offered according to the law),then He said,“ Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second.By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,

But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of men, and despised by the people.All those who see Me ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,“ He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!”

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him.And they stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying,“ Hail, King of the Jews!”Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head.And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. Him they compelled to bear His cross.And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, Place of a Skull,they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall to drink. But when He had tasted it, He would not drink.Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet:“ They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.”Sitting down, they kept watch over Him there.And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left.And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their headsand saying,“ You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said,“ He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him.He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”Even the robbers who were crucified with Him reviled Him with the same thing.Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land.And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying,“ Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is,“ My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said,“ This Man is calling for Elijah!”Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink.The rest said,“ Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save Him.”And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.

“ Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death,and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.”Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him.
