You have not come to a physical mountain, to a place of flaming fire, darkness, gloom, and whirlwind, as the Israelites did at Mount Sinai.

你们原不是来到那能摸的山；此山有火焰、密云、黑暗、暴风、

你們不是來到那座摸得著的山。那裡有烈火、密雲、幽暗、暴風、

因為你們上了的並不是一個可摸觸的山：那裏有燒𤏲的火、與昏黑幽冥和旋風、

你們並不是來到了摸得著的山、燃燒著的火、陰雲、幽暗、風暴、

夫爾非至可捫火炎之山、及幽冥、昏暗、暴風、

爾所至者、非有形之山、在彼火焰靉靆、幽暗暴風、

爾所至者、非彼可捫之山、在彼有烈火、密雲、幽暗、暴風、

應知爾今所陟者、非一有形之山、其上有火焰靉靆、幽冥暴風。

You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm;

You haven’t come to a mountain that can be touched. You haven’t come to a mountain burning with fire. You haven’t come to darkness, gloom and storm.

For you have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire and darkness and gloom and a tempest

For you have not come to what could be touched, to a blazing fire, to darkness, gloom, and storm,

For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched and to a blazing fire, and to darkness and gloom and whirlwind,

For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and darkness and tempest,

For ye are not come unto a mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, and unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

For you have not come to what could be touched, to a blazing fire, to darkness, gloom, and storm,

“ You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, while flames from the mountain shot into the sky. The mountain was shrouded in black clouds and deep darkness.

When the people heard the thunder and the loud blast of the ram’s horn, and when they saw the flashes of lightning and the smoke billowing from the mountain, they stood at a distance, trembling with fear.

“ The Lord spoke these words to all of you assembled there at the foot of the mountain. He spoke with a loud voice from the heart of the fire, surrounded by clouds and deep darkness. This was all he said at that time, and he wrote his words on two stone tablets and gave them to me.“ But when you heard the voice from the heart of the darkness, while the mountain was blazing with fire, all your tribal leaders and elders came to me.They said,‘ Look, the Lord our God has shown us his glory and greatness, and we have heard his voice from the heart of the fire. Today we have seen that God can speak to us humans, and yet we live!But now, why should we risk death again? If the Lord our God speaks to us again, we will certainly die and be consumed by this awesome fire.Can any living thing hear the voice of the living God from the heart of the fire as we did and yet survive?

To the Israelites at the foot of the mountain, the glory of the Lord appeared at the summit like a consuming fire.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self discipline.

So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him,“ Abba, Father.”

If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God!

Mark off a boundary all around the mountain. Warn the people,‘ Be careful! Do not go up on the mountain or even touch its boundaries. Anyone who touches the mountain will certainly be put to death.No hand may touch the person or animal that crosses the boundary; instead, stone them or shoot them with arrows. They must be put to death.’ However, when the ram’s horn sounds a long blast, then the people may go up on the mountain.”So Moses went down to the people. He consecrated them for worship, and they washed their clothes.He told them,“ Get ready for the third day, and until then abstain from having sexual intercourse.”On the morning of the third day, thunder roared and lightning flashed, and a dense cloud came down on the mountain. There was a long, loud blast from a ram’s horn, and all the people trembled.Moses led them out from the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.All of Mount Sinai was covered with smoke because the Lord had descended on it in the form of fire. The smoke billowed into the sky like smoke from a brick kiln, and the whole mountain shook violently.As the blast of the ram’s horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God thundered his reply.The Lord came down on the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses climbed the mountain.Then the Lord told Moses,“ Go back down and warn the people not to break through the boundaries to see the Lord, or they will die.Even the priests who regularly come near to the Lord must purify themselves so that the Lord does not break out and destroy them.”

Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.
