基督这么做，是要藉着话语，用水的洗涤而洁净教会，使她分别为圣，为要给自己预备一个荣耀的教会，没有污渍、皱纹或任何这类的事，却要她成为圣洁、毫无瑕疵。

但你们属于蒙拣选的族类、君王的祭司体系、圣洁的国度，是属神的子民；为要使你们宣扬曾召唤你们的那一位的美德——他召唤你们出黑暗，入他奇妙的光明。

难道你们已经忘记那安慰的话吗？就是他对你们如同对儿女那样讲论的话：“我儿，你不可轻看主的管教；被他责备的时候，也不可丧气。因为主所爱的人，主都管教；他所接纳的每一个儿子，他都鞭打。”

他为我们献上自己，是为了救赎我们脱离一切罪恶，并且洁净我们做他自己特选的子民，做美好工作的热心人。

相反，正如召唤你们的那一位是圣洁的，你们在一切行为上也当成为圣洁的，因为经上记着：“你们当成为圣洁的，因为我是圣洁的。”

但如今，神在基督的血肉之躯上，藉着死使你们与他自己和好了，并且使你们站在他面前，是圣洁、毫无瑕疵、无可指责的。

你们也就像活石，被建造成一座属灵的殿宇，进入圣洁的祭司体系，好藉着耶稣基督献上蒙神悦纳的属灵祭物，
