Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

A huge cloud of witnesses is all around us. So let us throw off everything that stands in our way. Let us throw off any sin that holds on to us so tightly. And let us keep on running the race marked out for us.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.Everyone who competes in the games exercises self control in all things. So they do it to obtain a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.Therefore I run in such a way as not to run aimlessly; I box in such a way, as to avoid hitting air;but I strictly discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

“ But be on your guard, so that your hearts will not be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that this day will not come on you suddenly, like a trap;

holding firmly the word of life, so that on the day of Christ I can take pride because I did not run in vain nor labor in vain.

that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;if somehow I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.Not that I have already grasped it all or have already become perfect, but I press on if I may also take hold of that for which I was even taken hold of by Christ Jesus.Brothers and sisters, I do not regard myself as having taken hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead,I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.For yet in a very little while, He who is coming will come, and will not delay.But My righteous one will live by faith; And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him.But we are not among those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith for the safekeeping of the soul.

You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth?

Therefore, treat the parts of your earthly body as dead to sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.For it is because of these things that the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them.But now you also, rid yourselves of all of them: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene speech from your mouth.

rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer,

And not only this, but we also celebrate in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance;and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope;and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,

that, in reference to your former way of life, you are to rid yourselves of the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit,and that you are to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,and to put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let’s cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Therefore be patient, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains.You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.Do not complain, brothers and sisters, against one another, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.As an example, brothers and sisters, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.

Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we first believed.The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let’s rid ourselves of the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.Let’s behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and debauchery, not in strife and jealousy.But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.

And so, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise.

No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him.

to those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life;

knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

But the one who endures to the end is the one who will be saved.

And you will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.

For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?But if we hope for what we do not see, through perseverance we wait eagerly for it.

And the seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked by worries, riches, and pleasures of this life, and they bring no fruit to maturity.But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word with a good and virtuous heart, and hold it firmly, and produce fruit with perseverance.

Because you have kept My word of perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of the testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who live on the earth.

so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human lusts, but for the will of God.

“ If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who are watching it will begin to ridicule him,saying,‘ This person began to build, and was not able to finish!’Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to face the one coming against him with twenty thousand?Otherwise, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and requests terms of peace.So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.

and in your knowledge, self control, and in your self control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness,

“ I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you of these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”

If anyone is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints.

But He said to them,“ Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one is affluent does his life consist of his possessions.”

What He has seen and heard, of this He testifies; and no one accepts His testimony.

But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

I, John, your brother and fellow participant in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

“ The one who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and the one who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.And the one who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

Through Silvanus, our faithful brother( for so I regard him), I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it!

Now when Jesus heard this, He said to him,“ One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely wealthy.And Jesus looked at him and said,“ How hard it is for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God!”

Who are these who fly like a cloud And like the doves to their windows?

for I have five brothers— in order that he may warn them, so that they will not come to this place of torment as well.’

Now from that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified,“ He told me all the things that I have done.”

I was also blameless with Him, And I kept myself from my wrongdoing.

and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It shall come about in the last days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I show Myself holy through you before their eyes, Gog.”

And He said to another,“ Follow Me.” But he said,“ Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.”But He said to him,“ Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.”Another also said,“ I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say goodbye to those at my home.”But Jesus said to him,“ No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

And you will go up, you will come like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land, you and all your troops, and many peoples with you.”

For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.
