他凭信心像异乡人一样寄居在上帝应许给他的地方。他住在帐篷里，与同受一个应许的以撒和雅各一样。

他因着信，就在所应许之地作客，好像在异地居住帐棚，与那同蒙一个应许的以撒、雅各一样。

以信而旅於所許之地、如在異地、偕共承上帝所許之以撒雅各居於幕、

為旅於上帝許賜之地、猶在異邦、以撒雅各亦蒙上帝所許、與亞伯拉罕各居於幕、

彼有信而為旅於天主所許之地、如在異邦、居於幕、與後蒙應許之以撒雅各同、

復憑信德、而羇旅於承許之地、與共承恩諾之依灑格雅各伯同寓棚帳之中；

By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.

Because of his faith he made his home in the land God had promised him. Abraham was like an outsider in a strange country. He lived there in tents. So did Isaac and Jacob. They received the same promise he did.

By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise.

And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith— for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise.

By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents as did Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise.

By faith he lived as a stranger in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise;

By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;

By faith he became a sojourner in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise.

By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as[ in] a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

By faith he lived as a foreigner in the promised land as though it were a foreign country, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who were fellow heirs of the same promise.

By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.

然后，他们又启程前往伯特利东面的山区，在那里搭起帐篷。他们的西面是伯特利，东面是艾。亚伯兰又在那里筑了一座坛，求告耶和华。

亚伯兰就把帐篷迁移到希伯仑幔利的橡树那里居住，在那里为耶和华筑了一座祭坛。

那三位客人问亚伯拉罕：“你妻子撒拉在哪里？”亚伯拉罕回答说：“在帐篷里。”

同样，上帝为要向承受应许的人显明祂的旨意绝不更改，就用誓言向他们保证。

他从南地渐渐迁移到伯特利，到了他从前在伯特利和艾中间搭帐篷和筑坛的地方。他又在那里求告耶和华。

耶和华站在梯子上对雅各说：“我是耶和华，是你祖父亚伯拉罕的上帝，也是以撒的上帝。我要把你现在躺卧的地方赐给你和你的后代。你的后代必多如地上的尘沙，遍布四方，地上万族必因你和你的后代而蒙福。

对约瑟说：“全能的上帝曾经在迦南的路斯向我显现，赐福给我。祂对我说，‘我必使你生养众多，子孙兴旺，并把迦南赐给你和你的后裔永远作产业。’

雅各来到他父亲以撒住的幔利，即基列·亚巴，也就是亚伯拉罕和以撒寄居的地方。基列·亚巴就是希伯仑。

当时在这片土地上，上帝没有给他任何产业，他甚至连立足之地也没有。但上帝应许要把这片土地赐给他和他的后裔作产业，尽管那时候亚伯拉罕还没有儿子。上帝又说，‘你的子孙必流落异乡，受奴役、被虐待四百年。

于是，亚伯拉罕连忙进帐篷对撒拉说：“快准备三斗细面粉，和面烤饼。”

耶和华在幔利的橡树那里向亚伯拉罕显现。那时天气很热，亚伯拉罕坐在帐篷口，抬头看见三个人站在对面，就跑去迎接他们，俯伏在地，

我要把你现在寄居的整个迦南赐给你和你的后裔永远作产业，我也必做他们的上帝。”

你寄居在这里，我必与你同在，赐福给你，因为我必把这些土地赐给你和你的后代，坚立我对你父亲亚伯拉罕的誓约。我必使你的后代多如繁星，将这些土地都赐给他们，天下万国必因你的后裔而蒙福。

“我是寄居在你们这里的异乡人，请你们给我一块地，我好埋葬我的亡妻。”

愿上帝把赐给亚伯拉罕的福气赐给你和你的后代，让你承受你寄居之地为产业，就是上帝赐给亚伯拉罕的地方。”

孩子们渐渐长大，以扫擅长狩猎，常在田野活动；雅各生来安静，喜欢待在家里。
