He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.

He chose to be treated badly together with the people of God. He chose not to enjoy sin’s pleasures. They only last for a short time.

A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

the triumph of the wicked has been short lived and the joy of the godless has been only temporary?

Be on guard! Turn back from evil, for God sent this suffering to keep you from a life of evil.

She glorified herself and lived in luxury, so match it now with torment and sorrow. She boasted in her heart,‘ I am queen on my throne. I am no helpless widow, and I have no reason to mourn.’

“ Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.”

Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.Instead, be very glad— for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.If you are insulted because you bear the name of Christ, you will be blessed, for the glorious Spirit of God rests upon you.If you suffer, however, it must not be for murder, stealing, making trouble, or prying into other people’s affairs.But it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being called by his name!

Truly, you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction.In an instant they are destroyed, completely swept away by terrors.When you arise, O Lord, you will laugh at their silly ideas as a person laughs at dreams in the morning.

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold— though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.

“ Listen to this, you pleasure loving kingdom, living at ease and feeling secure. You say,‘ I am the only one, and there is no other. I will never be a widow or lose my children.’Well, both these things will come upon you in a moment: widowhood and the loss of your children. Yes, these calamities will come upon you, despite all your witchcraft and magic.

They let their children frisk about like lambs. Their little ones skip and dance.They sing with tambourine and harp. They celebrate to the sound of the flute.They spend their days in prosperity, then go down to the grave in peace.

And I’ll sit back and say to myself,“ My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.

Dear brothers and sisters, we can’t help but thank God for you, because your faith is flourishing and your love for one another is growing.We proudly tell God’s other churches about your endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering.And God will use this persecution to show his justice and to make you worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering.In his justice he will pay back those who persecute you.

God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.“ God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers.Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.

Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them.And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules.And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor.Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.Always remember that Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David, was raised from the dead. This is the Good News I preach.And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained.So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen.

Think back on those early days when you first learned about Christ. Remember how you remained faithful even though it meant terrible suffering.

My mind reels and my heart races. I longed for evening to come, but now I am terrified of the dark.

You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter.

So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.

“ But Abraham said to him,‘ Son, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, and Lazarus had nothing. So now he is here being comforted, and you are in anguish.

You know how much persecution and suffering I have endured. You know all about how I was persecuted in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra— but the Lord rescued me from all of it.Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

He saw an Egyptian mistreating an Israelite. So Moses came to the man’s defense and avenged him, killing the Egyptian.Moses assumed his fellow Israelites would realize that God had sent him to rescue them, but they didn’t.

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?( As the Scriptures say,“ For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”)No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow— not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.No power in the sky above or in the earth below— indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word.

The rulers of the world have gathered together with the people of the God of Abraham. For all the kings of the earth belong to God. He is highly honored everywhere.

Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half, and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated.

And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.

I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church.

except that the Holy Spirit tells me in city after city that jail and suffering lie ahead.But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus— the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.

So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God.
