The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming— not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.

原來，一方面，先前的條例因著本身的軟弱和無用，就被廢棄了，因為律法沒有使任何事物完全；另一方面，一個更美好的盼望卻被帶來了；藉著這個盼望，我們可以親近神。

不過基督已經來到，做了那些已經發生的美善之事的大祭司，經過了那更大、更完美的會幕。那會幕不是人手所造的；就是說，不屬於這被造的世界。

既然那些諸天之上事物的模型，必須用這些祭物來潔淨，那天上事物的本體就必須用比這些更好的祭物來潔淨，

聖靈指明這一點：只要第一間會幕還存在，進入至聖所的道路就還沒有顯明出來。這會幕是現今時代的一個象徵，在這裡所獻上的禮物和祭物，並不能使事奉者的良心得以完全，

他也不用再三地將自己獻上，像大祭司年年帶著牛羊的血進入聖所那樣，

所有的祭司天天都站著服事，再三地獻上同樣的祭物，但這些祭物絕不能把罪孽除掉，而這一位為贖罪孽獻上了一個永遠的祭物，就在神的右邊坐下了，此後一直等候他的敵人被放在他的腳下做腳凳。事實上，他藉著一個供物，使那些被分別為聖的人永遠得以完全。聖靈也向我們做見證，因為他說過：「主說：『在那些日子以後，我要與他們訂立這樣的約：我要把我的法則放在他們的心上，刻在他們的意念中。』」然後又說：「我絕不再想起他們的罪孽和他們的罪惡。」所以在哪裡這些罪得了赦免，在哪裡就不再有贖罪的供物了。

然而這些祭物使人年年都想起罪孽來，因為公牛和山羊的血，不可能把罪孽除去。
