I saw the tents of Cushan in distress, the dwellings of Midian in anguish.

I saw the tents of Cushan in trouble. The people of Midian were suffering greatly.

I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction; the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.

I see the people of Cushan in distress, and the nation of Midian trembling in terror.

The people shall hear,[ and] be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina.Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away.Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be[ as] still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over,[ which] thou hast purchased.

And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that the LORD thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were sore afraid of our lives because of you, and have done this thing.

For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.Do unto them as[ unto] the Midianites; as[ to] Sisera, as[ to] Jabin, at the brook of Kison:[ Which] perished at Endor: they became[ as] dung for the earth.

And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan.And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.

And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.

Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name[ was] Keturah.And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these[ were] the children of Keturah.

And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they[ were] many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all[ that are] round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor[ was] king of the Moabites at that time.

Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the LORD of Midian.Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of[ every] tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of[ every] tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain;[ namely], Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.And the children of Israel took[ all] the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.And they took all the spoil, and all the prey,[ both] of men and of beasts.And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which[ are] by Jordan[ near] Jericho.

For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that[ were] on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
