在詔書中，王允許各個城市的猶太人，在亞哈隨魯王各省中，在十二月（亞達月）十三日，一天之內，聚集起來，保護自己的性命，除滅、擊殺、消滅所有攻擊猶太人的各族各省的武裝力量，甚至他們的孩童和婦女，並且掠奪他們的財物。

亞哈隨魯王就對王后以斯帖和猶太人末迪凱說：「看哪！我已經把哈曼的家交給以斯帖，人們也把哈曼掛在木架上了，因為他要對猶太人下手。

為了那應許，我們十二個支派日夜熱切地事奉神，盼望得到它。王啊，我被猶太人控告，就是為了這盼望。

那時是三月（西彎月）二十三日，王的書記們被召來，照著末迪凱所吩咐的一切，給猶太人下旨，也給從印度到庫實一百二十七個省的行政官、省長和各省的首領下旨，用各省的文字給各個省，用各民族的語言給各個民族，用猶太人的文字和語言給猶太人。

十二月（亞達月）十三日，王令和他的法令要執行的那一天，就是猶太人的仇敵期待轄制他們的日子，卻成為猶太人轄制那些恨他們之人的日子。猶太人在亞哈隨魯王各省的城市中聚集起來，為要下手對付那些圖謀加害他們的人。沒有人能在他們面前站立得住，因為各民族都懼怕他們。各省所有的首領，以及行政官、省長和辦理王事務的人，都支持猶太人，因為他們懼怕末迪凱。末迪凱在王宮裡為大，他的名聲傳遍各省；末迪凱這人日漸強大。猶太人用刀劍擊殺了他們一切的仇敵，殺戮毀滅，任意對待那些恨他們的人。猶太人在蘇薩城堡中擊殺、消滅了五百人。他們也擊殺了巴珊達塔、達樂分、阿斯帕塔、坡拉塔、阿達利雅、阿利達塔、帕瑪示塔、阿利賽、阿利代、瓦業撒塔，就是哈米達塔的兒子猶太人的敵人哈曼的十個兒子，但沒有下手掠奪財物。

我又聽見了那些被蓋上印之人的數目，以色列子民各支派中被蓋上印的有十四萬四千人：

以色列在那地居住的時候，魯本去與他父親的小妾碧荷同睡；以色列也聽到了這事。雅各有十二個兒子：

神和主耶穌基督的奴僕雅各，問候散居在各地的十二個支派。

看哪，耶和華的日子將要來到，你的被掠之物必在你面前被瓜分！我要招聚萬國與耶路撒冷作戰，這城將被攻取，房屋被搶掠，女人被強姦；城中的人必有一半被擄去，但剩餘的民不會從城中被剪除。那時，耶和華要出去，與那些國家爭戰，像他從前在戰鬥之日爭戰那樣。到那日，他的腳必站在橄欖山上——這山面向耶路撒冷，位於耶路撒冷的東邊；橄欖山必從東向西裂為兩半，形成極大的山谷，山的一半向北挪移，另一半向南挪移。你們會經由我的山谷逃跑，因為山谷延伸到亞薩；你們會逃跑，像人們逃避猶大王烏西雅年間的大地震那樣。耶和華我的神必來臨，所有的聖者也與他一起來臨。到那日，不會有光，光體都必凍結。那將是耶和華所知道的獨特之日；那日不再有白天黑夜，傍晚時分仍然有光。
