誰是智慧人，可以明白這事？耶和華的口向誰說過，使他可以傳說？遍地為何滅亡，乾焦好像曠野，甚至無人經過呢？

隨後又要來七個荒年，甚至在埃及地都忘了先前的豐收，全地必被饑荒所滅。因那以後的饑荒甚大，便不覺得先前的豐收了。

田荒涼，地悲哀；因為五穀毀壞，新酒乾竭，油也缺乏。農夫啊，你們要慚愧；修理葡萄園的啊，你們要哀號；因為大麥小麥與田間的莊稼都滅絕了。葡萄樹枯乾；無花果樹衰殘。石榴樹、棕樹、蘋果樹，連田野一切的樹木也都枯乾；眾人的喜樂盡都消滅。

亞哈對俄巴底說：「我們走遍這地，到一切水泉旁和一切溪邊，或者找得着青草，可以救活騾馬，免得絕了牲畜。」

夜間，每逢交更的時候要起來呼喊，在主面前傾心如水。你的孩童在各市口上受餓發昏；你要為他們的性命向主舉手禱告。耶和華啊，求你觀看！見你向誰這樣行？婦人豈可吃自己所生育手裏所搖弄的嬰孩嗎？祭司和先知豈可在主的聖所中被殺戮嗎？

餓死的不如被刀殺的，因為這是缺了田間的土產，就身體衰弱，漸漸消滅。
