那日，我必把我人民居住的地方歌珊分别出来，使那里没有苍蝇，为要使你知道在全地上只有我是耶和华。

雅各派犹大先到约瑟那里去，请约瑟指教他去歌珊的路。于是他们来到歌珊地。约瑟预备了车，上去歌珊迎接他的父亲以色列。约瑟一看见他，就伏在他的颈项上，在他的颈项上哭了很久。

在我父的家里，有许多住的地方；如果没有，我怎么会告诉你们我去是要为你们预备地方呢？（下半节或译：“如果没有，我早就对你们说了，因为我去是为你们预备地方。”）我若去为你们预备地方，就必再来接你们到我那里去，好使我在哪里，你们也在哪里。

父啊，我在哪里，愿你赐给我的人也和我同在哪里，让他们看见你赐给我的荣耀，因为在创立世界以前，你已经爱我了。

你们就要回答：‘仆人们从幼年直到现在，都是以牧养牲畜为生。我们和我们的祖先都是一样。’这样，你们就可以住在歌珊地，因为埃及人厌恶所有牧羊的人。”约瑟进去禀告法老，说：“我的父亲和兄弟们，带着他们的牛羊和他们所有的一切，都从迦南地来了，现在就在歌珊地。”约瑟从他所有的兄弟当中，挑选了五个人，把他们带到法老面前。法老问约瑟的兄弟们说：“你们是作什么的？”他们回答法老：“仆人们是牧羊人，我们和我们的祖先都是一样。”他们又对法老说：“我们来是要在这地寄居，因为迦南地的饥荒严重，你仆人们的羊群没有草吃，所以，现在求你容许你仆人住在歌珊地。”法老对约瑟说：“你的父亲和兄弟们到你这里来了；埃及地都在你面前，你只管叫你的父亲和兄弟们住在这地最好的地方，他们可以住在歌珊地。你如果知道他们中间有能干的人，可以派他们看管我的牲畜。”

只有在以色列人所在的歌珊地，没有冰雹。
