雅各認出了那袍子，就說：「這是我兒子的袍子。惡獸把他吃掉了；約瑟一定被撕成碎片了！」雅各就撕裂自己的衣服，把麻布束在腰上，為他兒子悲慟了許多日子。他所有的兒女都起來安慰他，他卻不肯受安慰，說：「我一定會悲哀地下陰間，到我兒子那裡。」約瑟的父親就為約瑟哀哭。

她的靈魂快要出竅，她快死的時候，給兒子起名為便俄尼，他父親卻稱他為便雅憫。

他們的父親雅各對他們說：「你們使我喪失了兒子：約瑟不在了，西緬也不在了；你們又要把便雅憫帶走，這一切都是衝著我來的！」

他們說：「你的僕人們本是兄弟十二人，都是迦南地同一個人的兒子。看哪，最小的那個現在與我們的父親在一起，還有一個已經不在了。」

他們彼此說：「看哪，那個做夢的來了！
