他們坐下吃飯，舉目觀看，見有一夥米甸的以實瑪利人從基列來，用駱駝馱着香料、乳香、沒藥，要帶下埃及去。

基土拉給他生了心蘭、約珊、米但、米甸、伊施巴，和書亞。

米甸人帶約瑟到埃及，把他賣給法老的內臣－護衛長波提乏。

一日，他在井旁坐下。米甸的祭司有七個女兒；她們來打水，打滿了槽，要飲父親的羣羊。

在所殺的人中，殺了米甸的五王，就是以未、利金、蘇珥、戶珥、利巴，又用刀殺了比珥的兒子巴蘭。以色列人擄了米甸人的婦女孩子，並將他們的牲畜、羊羣，和所有的財物都奪了來，當作擄物，

說：「我把他交給你們，你們願意給我多少錢？」他們就給了他三十塊錢。

「你要在米甸人身上報以色列人的仇，後來要歸到你列祖那裏。」摩西吩咐百姓說：「要從你們中間叫人帶兵器出去攻擊米甸，好在米甸人身上為耶和華報仇。

我對他們說：「你們若以為美，就給我工價。不然，就罷了！」於是他們給了三十塊錢作為我的工價。耶和華吩咐我說：「要把眾人所估定美好的價值丟給窰戶。」我便將這三十塊錢，在耶和華的殿中丟給窰戶了。

這就應了先知耶利米的話，說：「他們用那三十塊錢，就是被估定之人的價錢，是以色列人中所估定的，

基甸又對他們說：「我有一件事求你們：請你們各人將所奪的耳環給我。」（原來仇敵是以實瑪利人，都是戴金耳環的。）

成羣的駱駝，並米甸和以法的獨峯駝必遮滿你；示巴的眾人都必來到；要奉上黃金乳香，又要傳說耶和華的讚美。

那被殺的米甸女人，名叫哥斯比，是蘇珥的女兒；這蘇珥是米甸一個宗族的首領。

以色列人對基甸說：「你既救我們脫離米甸人的手，願你和你的兒孫管理我們。」

求你待他們，如待米甸，如在基順河待西西拉和耶賓一樣。
