以扫对雅各说：“我要饿死了，给我一些红豆汤喝吧！”因此，以扫又叫以东。

把雅各和以扫赐给以撒，把西珥山赐给以扫作产业，雅各和他的子孙则去了埃及。

不要惹他们，因为我已把西珥山赐给以扫作产业，他们的土地，我一寸也不会赐给你们。

倒不如请我主先走，我迁就牲畜和孩子慢慢走，我在西珥与我主会合。”

在西珥山打败住在那里的何利人，直杀到靠近旷野的伊勒·巴兰。

以扫带着他在迦南所得的妻子、儿女和家中所有的人员，以及所有的牲畜和财产离开雅各，迁往别处。以扫和雅各两家的财产和牲畜太多，那地方不够他们住，于是以扫，即以东，搬到了西珥山居住。以扫是西珥山区以东人的祖先，以下是他的子孙。

祂先派人到撒玛利亚的一个村庄去预备食宿，

耶和华也曾为以扫的子孙消灭住在西珥的何利人，让他们占据何利人的土地，住在那里，直到今日。

于是，以扫在当天先回西珥去了，

以扫因为父亲把祝福给了雅各，就对雅各怀恨在心，暗自思量说：“父亲已经不久人世，他死后，我要把雅各杀掉！”以扫的计谋传到利百加耳中。她就派人把雅各叫来，对他说：“你哥哥以扫想要杀你泄愤！

万军之耶和华说：“我要差遣我的使者为我开路。你们所寻求的主必突然来到祂的殿中。你们所期盼的那位立约的使者快要来了！”

“哪有王要跟另一个王打仗时，不先坐下来酌量一下自己的一万人是否敌得过对方的两万人？如果自知不敌，一定趁敌人还远的时候，就差使者去求和。
