Then the man said,“ Let me go, for the dawn is breaking!” But Jacob said,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

Then the man said,“ Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

Then the man said,“ Let me go. It is morning.” But Jacob replied,“ I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”

Then he said,“ Let me go, for the day has broken.” But Jacob said,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

Then he said to Jacob,“ Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob said,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

Then he said,“ Let me go, for the dawn is breaking.” But he said,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

And He said,“ Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said,“ I will not let You go unless You bless me!”

And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

Then He said to Jacob,“ Let Me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob said,“ I will not let You go unless You bless me.”

And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

Then the man said,“ Let me go, for the dawn is breaking.”“ I will not let you go,” Jacob replied,“ unless you bless me.”

The man said,“ Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said,“ I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”

The Lord remembers us and will bless us. He will bless the people of Israel and bless the priests, the descendants of Aaron.He will bless those who fear the Lord, both great and lowly.

Yes, he wrestled with the angel and won. He wept and pleaded for a blessing from him. There at Bethel he met God face to face, and God spoke to him—

Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away.Each time he said,“ My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

Then scarcely had I left them when I found my love! I caught and held him tightly, then I brought him to my mother’s house, into my mother’s bed, where I had been conceived.

May God be merciful and bless us. May his face smile with favor on us. Interlude

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.“ There was a judge in a certain city,” he said,“ who neither feared God nor cared about people.A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying,‘ Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself,‘ I don’t fear God or care about people,but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”Then the Lord said,“ Learn a lesson from this unjust judge.Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?

He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel,“ Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.

Now leave me alone so my fierce anger can blaze against them, and I will destroy them. Then I will make you, Moses, into a great nation.”

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

Then the earth will yield its harvests, and God, our God, will richly bless us.Yes, God will bless us, and people all over the world will fear him.

Your head is as majestic as Mount Carmel, and the sheen of your hair radiates royalty. The king is held captive by its tresses.

Yet no one calls on your name or pleads with you for mercy. Therefore, you have turned away from us and turned us over to our sins.

By this time they were nearing Emmaus and the end of their journey. Jesus acted as if he were going on,but they begged him,“ Stay the night with us, since it is getting late.” So he went home with them.

Leave me alone so I may destroy them and erase their name from under heaven. Then I will make a mighty nation of your descendants, a nation larger and more powerful than they are.’

This is what the Lord says— the Holy One of Israel and your Creator:“ Do you question what I do for my children? Do you give me orders about the work of my hands?
