Jacob heard that Laban’s sons were saying,“ Jacob has taken everything our father owned and has gained all this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

Jacob heard what Laban’s sons were saying.“ Jacob has taken everything our father owned,” they said.“ He has gained all this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

Now Jacob heard that the sons of Laban were saying,“ Jacob has taken all that was our father’s, and from what was our father’s he has gained all this wealth.”

But Jacob soon learned that Laban’s sons were grumbling about him.“ Jacob has robbed our father of everything!” they said.“ He has gained all his wealth at our father’s expense.”

Now Jacob heard what Laban’s sons were saying:“ Jacob has taken all that was our father’s and has built this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

Now Jacob heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying,“ Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and from what belonged to our father he has made all this wealth.”

Now Jacob heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying,“ Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and from what was our father’s he has acquired all this wealth.”

And he heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father’s; and of that which was our father’s hath he gotten all this glory.

Now Jacob heard what Laban’s sons were saying:“ Jacob has taken all that was our father’s and has built this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

And he heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that[ was] our father’s; and of[ that] which[ was] our father’s hath he gotten all this glory.

Jacob heard that Laban’s sons were complaining,“ Jacob has taken everything that belonged to our father! He has gotten rich at our father’s expense!”

Jacob heard Laban’s sons’ words, saying,“ Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s. He has obtained all this wealth from that which was our father’s.”

And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. (niv)

if those of my household have never said,‘ Who has not been filled with Job’s meat?’— (niv)

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. (niv)

Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy? (niv)

Haman boasted to them about his vast wealth, his many sons, and all the ways the king had honored him and how he had elevated him above the other nobles and officials. (niv)

A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. (niv)

This is what the Lord says:“ Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, (niv)

I am in the midst of lions; I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts— men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords. (niv)

They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.They shoot from ambush at the innocent; they shoot suddenly, without fear. (niv)

Do not be overawed when others grow rich, when the splendor of their houses increases;for they will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them. (niv)

Tell my father about all the honor accorded me in Egypt and about everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly.” (niv)

they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions (niv)

Therefore Death expands its jaws, opening wide its mouth; into it will descend their nobles and masses with all their brawlers and revelers. (niv)

What will he do to you, and what more besides, you deceitful tongue?He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows, with burning coals of the broom bush.Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek, that I live among the tents of Kedar! (niv)

For,“ All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, (niv)

If he said,‘ The speckled ones will be your wages,’ then all the flocks gave birth to speckled young; and if he said,‘ The streaked ones will be your wages,’ then all the flocks bore streaked young.So God has taken away your father’s livestock and has given them to me. (niv)

“‘ Everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about you:“ Like mother, like daughter.” (niv)

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. (niv)

By your hand save me from such people, Lord, from those of this world whose reward is in this life. May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies; may their children gorge themselves on it, and may there be leftovers for their little ones. (niv)
