Jacob heard what Laban’s sons were saying.“ Jacob has taken everything our father owned,” they said.“ He has gained all this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

雅各听见拉班的儿子们有话说：“雅各把我们父亲所有的都夺了去，并藉着我们父亲的，得了这一切的荣耀。”

雅各听见拉班儿子们的话，说：“雅各把我们父亲所有的都夺去了！他从我们父亲所拥有的获得这一切的财富。”

雅各听见拉班儿子们的话，说：“雅各把我们父亲所有的都夺去了！他从我们父亲所拥有的获得这一切的财富。”

雅各听见拉班的儿子们说：“雅各夺去了我们父亲的一切！他的财富都是从我们父亲那里得来的。”

雅各听见拉班的众子谈论，说：“雅各把我们父亲所有的都夺去了，他这一切财物，都是从我们父亲的财产那里得来的。”

雅各听见拉班儿子们说：“雅各夺取了我们父亲的一切，他从我们父亲所拥有的获得了这一切财富。”

雅各聽見拉班的兒子們有話說：「雅各把我們父親所有的都奪了去，並藉着我們父親的，得了這一切的榮耀。」

雅各聽見拉班的兒子們說：「雅各奪去了我們父親的一切！他的財富都是從我們父親那裡得來的。」

雅各聽見拉班的眾子談論，說：“雅各把我們父親所有的都奪去了，他這一切財物，都是從我們父親的財產那裡得來的。”

雅各聽見拉班的兒子們有話說：『雅各把我們父親所有的都奪取了去，並且從我們父親所有的發了這一切財。』

雅各聽見拉班兒子們說：「雅各奪取了我們父親的一切，他從我們父親所擁有的獲得了這一切財富。」

雅各聞拉班眾子言曰、我父所有者、雅各盡奪之、因父之資、獲此榮盛、

拉班眾子相議曰、我父所有者、而雅各奪之、因致巨富。雅各聞之、

拉班眾子議曰、我父所有者、盡為雅各所奪、彼藉我父所有者獲此巨富、雅各聞之、

Jacob heard that Laban’s sons were saying,“ Jacob has taken everything our father owned and has gained all this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

Now Jacob heard that the sons of Laban were saying,“ Jacob has taken all that was our father’s, and from what was our father’s he has gained all this wealth.”

But Jacob soon learned that Laban’s sons were grumbling about him.“ Jacob has robbed our father of everything!” they said.“ He has gained all his wealth at our father’s expense.”

Now Jacob heard what Laban’s sons were saying:“ Jacob has taken all that was our father’s and has built this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

Now Jacob heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying,“ Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and from what belonged to our father he has made all this wealth.”

Now Jacob heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying,“ Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and from what was our father’s he has acquired all this wealth.”

And he heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father’s; and of that which was our father’s hath he gotten all this glory.

Now Jacob heard what Laban’s sons were saying:“ Jacob has taken all that was our father’s and has built this wealth from what belonged to our father.”

And he heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that[ was] our father’s; and of[ that] which[ was] our father’s hath he gotten all this glory.

Jacob heard that Laban’s sons were complaining,“ Jacob has taken everything that belonged to our father! He has gotten rich at our father’s expense!”

Jacob heard Laban’s sons’ words, saying,“ Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s. He has obtained all this wealth from that which was our father’s.”

I also saw that a person works hard and accomplishes a lot. But they do it only because they want what another person has. That doesn’t have any meaning either. It’s like chasing the wind.

The workers in my house always said,‘ Job always gives plenty of food to everyone.’

At one time we too acted like fools. We didn’t obey God. We were tricked. We were controlled by all kinds of desires and pleasures. We were full of evil. We wanted what belongs to others. People hated us, and we hated one another.

Anger is mean, and great anger overpowers you. But who can face jealousy?

He bragged to them about how rich he was. He talked about how many sons he had. He spoke about all the ways the king had honored him. He bragged about how the king had given him a high position. It was higher than the position of any of the other nobles and officials.

A peaceful heart gives life to the body. But jealousy rots the bones.

The Lord says,“ Do not let wise people brag about how wise they are. Do not let strong people boast about how strong they are. Do not let rich people brag about how rich they are.

Men who are like lions are all around me. I am forced to lie down among people who are like hungry animals. Their teeth are like spears and arrows. Their tongues are like sharp swords.

They make their tongues like sharp swords. They aim their mean words like deadly arrows.They shoot from their hiding places at people who aren’t guilty. They shoot quickly and aren’t afraid of being caught.

Don’t get too upset when other people become rich. Don’t be troubled when they become more and more wealthy.They won’t take anything with them when they die. Their riches won’t go down to the grave with them.

Tell my father about all the honor given to me in Egypt. Tell him about everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly.”

Then that person is proud and doesn’t understand anything. They like to argue more than they should. They can’t agree about what words mean. All of this results in wanting what others have. It causes fighting, harmful talk, and evil distrust.

So Death opens its jaws to receive them. Its mouth is open wide to swallow them up. Their nobles and the rest of the people will go down into it. They will go there together with all those who have wild parties.

What will the Lord do to you, you lying tongue? And what more will he do?He will punish you with the sharp arrows of a soldier. He will punish you with burning coals from a desert bush.How terrible it is for me to live in the tents of the people of Meshek! How terrible to live in the tents of the people of Kedar!

It is written,“ All people are like grass. All their glory is like the flowers in the field. The grass dries up. The flowers fall to the ground.

Sometimes Laban would say,‘ The speckled ones will be your pay.’ Then all the flocks had little ones with speckles. At other times he would say,‘ The striped ones will be your pay.’ Then all the flocks had little ones with stripes.So God has taken away your father’s livestock and given them to me.

“ All those who use proverbs will use this one about you. They will say,‘ Like mother, like daughter.’

Finally, the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain. He showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

Lord, by your power save me from people like that. They belong to this world. They get their reward in this life. May what you have stored up for evil people fill their bellies. May their children’s stomachs be filled with it. And may there even be leftovers for their little ones.

“ Suppose I’ve put my trust in gold. I’ve said to pure gold,‘ You make me feel secure.’And I’m happy because I’m so wealthy. I’m glad because my hands have earned so much.
