And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said,“ Because the Lord has looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.”

Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said,“ It is because the Lord has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now.”

Leah became pregnant. She had a son. She named him Reuben. She said,“ The Lord has seen me suffer. Surely my husband will love me now.”

So Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said,“ The Lord has noticed my misery, and now my husband will love me.”

Leah conceived, gave birth to a son, and named him Reuben, for she said,“ The LORD has seen my affliction; surely my husband will love me now.”

Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and named him Reuben, for she said,“ Because the Lord has seen my affliction; surely now my husband will love me.”

Then we cried to the Lord, the God of our fathers, and the Lord heard our voice and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression.

And the people believed; and when they heard that the Lord had visited the people of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, they bowed their heads and worshiped.

Then the Lord said,“ I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings,

Consider my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins.

If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been on my side, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed. God saw my affliction and the labor of my hands and rebuked you last night.”

“ Thus the Lord has done for me in the days when he looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.”

And as one of them opened his sack to give his donkey fodder at the lodging place, he saw his money in the mouth of his sack.

It may be that the Lord will look on the wrong done to me, and that the Lord will repay me with good for his cursing today.”

“ Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the firstfruits of my strength, preeminent in dignity and preeminent in power.Unstable as water, you shall not have preeminence, because you went up to your father’s bed; then you defiled it— he went up to my couch!

When Reuben returned to the pit and saw that Joseph was not in the pit, he tore his clothes

While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine. And Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.

And in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said,“ I have asked for him from the Lord.”

And the angel of the Lord said to her,“ Behold, you are pregnant and shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because the Lord has listened to your affliction.

But when Reuben heard it, he rescued him out of their hands, saying,“ Let us not take his life.”And Reuben said to them,“ Shed no blood; throw him into this pit here in the wilderness, but do not lay a hand on him”— that he might rescue him out of their hand to restore him to his father.

The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel( for he was the firstborn, but because he defiled his father’s couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, so that he could not be enrolled as the oldest son;

And she vowed a vow and said,“ O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”

Nevertheless, he looked upon their distress, when he heard their cry.

Now these are the names of the descendants of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons. Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn,and the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

And Reuben answered them,“ Did I not tell you not to sin against the boy? But you did not listen. So now there comes a reckoning for his blood.”
