When Abram was ninety nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said,“ I am El Shaddai—‘ God Almighty.’ Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life.I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants.”At this, Abram fell face down on the ground. Then God said to him,“ This is my covenant with you: I will make you the father of a multitude of nations!What’s more, I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham, for you will be the father of many nations.I will make you extremely fruitful. Your descendants will become many nations, and kings will be among them!

Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.

Then God blessed Noah and his sons and told them,“ Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth.

How joyful and prosperous you will be!Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine, flourishing within your home. Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees as they sit around your table.That is the Lord’s blessing for those who fear him.May the Lord continually bless you from Zion. May you see Jerusalem prosper as long as you live.May you live to enjoy your grandchildren. May Israel have peace!

I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies.And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed— all because you have obeyed me.”

I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El Shaddai—‘ God Almighty’— but I did not reveal my name, Yahweh, to them.

Joseph named his second son Ephraim, for he said,“ God has made me fruitful in this land of my grief.”
