亞伯拉罕從那裡遷到南地，就住在加低斯和書珥中間。亞伯拉罕寄居在基拉耳的時候，

就在那時候，耶和華與亞伯蘭立約說：“我已經把這地賜給你的後裔了，就是從埃及河直到幼發拉底河之地；

說：“耶和華說：‘我指著自己起誓，你既然作了這事，沒有留下你的兒子、你的獨生子，我必定賜福給你，必使你的後裔繁多，像天上的星，海邊的沙；你的後裔必佔領仇敵的城門。地上萬國都要因你的後裔得福，因為你聽從了我的話。’”

就是與亞伯拉罕所立的約，向以撒所起的誓。

因著信，他在應許之地寄居，好像是在異鄉，與承受同樣應許的以撒、雅各一樣住在帳棚裡。

你起來，縱橫走遍這地，因為我必把這地賜給你。”

這些人都是存著信心死了的，還沒有得著所應許的，只不過是從遠處看見，就表示歡迎，又承認他們在世上是異鄉人，是客旅。因為說這樣話的人，是表明他們在尋求一個家鄉。如果他們懷念已經離開了的地方，還有可以回去的機會。但是現在他們所嚮往的，是一個更美的、在天上的家鄉。所以，神不以他們稱他為神而覺得羞恥；因為他已經為他們預備了一座城。

耶和華對亞伯蘭說：“你要離開本地、本族、父家，到我指示你的地方去。我必使你成為大國，賜福給你，使你的名為大，你也必使別人得福，

不要因作惡的人心懷不平，不要因犯罪的人產生嫉妒。（本節在《馬索拉文本》包括細字標題）因為他們好像草快要枯乾，像即將凋萎的青草。你要倚靠耶和華，並要行善；你要住在地上，以信實為糧食。你要以耶和華為樂，他就把你心裡所求的賜給你。你要把你的道路交託耶和華，並倚靠他，他就必成全。他必使你的公義好像光發出，使你的公正如日中天。

他擁有羊群、牛群和很多僕人，非利士人就嫉妒他。

我要把你現在寄居的地，就是迦南全地，賜給你和你的後裔，作永遠的產業，我也要作他們的神。”

照樣，神定意向那些承受應許的人，更清楚地表明他的旨意是不更改的，就用起誓作保證。

我要教導你，指示你應走的路；我要勸戒你，我的眼睛看顧你。

耶和華與約瑟同在，約瑟就事事順利，住在他主人埃及人的家裡。

耶和華啊！求你垂聽我的禱告，留心聽我的呼求；我流淚，求你不要緘默；因為我在你面前是客旅，是寄居的，像我所有的祖先一樣。

你必向雅各顯誠實，向亞伯拉罕施慈愛，就是古時，你起誓應許我們列祖的。

但是，耶和華與約瑟同在，向他施慈愛，使他得到監獄長的歡心。

以撒在那裡耕種，那一年豐收百倍，耶和華實在賜福給他。

你從水中經過的時候，我必與你同在；你渡過江河的時候，水必不淹沒你；你從火中行走的時候，必不會燒傷；火燄也不會在你身上燒起來。

你們在我身上所學習、所領受、所聽見、所看見的，這些事你們都應當實行；那麼，賜平安的神就必與你們同在。

你不要懼怕，因為我與你同在；我必把你的後裔從東方領回來，又從西方招聚你。
