亞伯蘭的妻子撒萊沒有為他生孩子。撒萊有一個埃及婢女，名叫夏甲。

耶和華的使者在曠野的水泉旁，就是書珥路上的水泉旁，找到了夏甲，

迦南的邊界從西頓延伸到基拉耳，直到加沙；又延伸到所多瑪、格摩拉、押瑪、洗扁，直到拉沙。

亞比米勒和他的謀士亞戶撒，以及他軍隊的首領非革，從基拉耳來到以撒那裡。

耶和華的聲音震撼曠野，耶和華震撼加低斯的曠野。

基拉耳的牧人們與以撒的牧人們爭論，說：「這水是我們的。」以撒就給這口井起名為埃色，因為他們與他相爭。

當時，以撒住在南地，剛從比珥-拉海-羅伊回來。
