于是，以撒就住在基拉耳。

从前在亚伯拉罕的时候，曾经有过一次饥荒，现在那地又有饥荒，以撒就到基拉耳去，到非利士人的王亚比米勒那里。

耶和华在幔利橡树那里，向亚伯拉罕显现。那时，是一天中最热的时候，亚伯拉罕正坐在帐棚门口；

因此，这井名叫庇耳．拉海．莱，是在加低斯和巴列之间。

亚伯兰的妻子撒莱，没有为他生孩子。撒莱却有一个婢女，是埃及人，名叫夏甲。

耶和华的使者在旷野的水泉旁边，就是在到书珥路上的水旁边，遇到了她，

迦南人的境界是从西顿伸向基拉耳，直到迦萨；又伸向所多玛、蛾摩拉、押玛、洗扁，直到拉沙。

亚比米勒和他的朋友亚户撒，以及他的军长非各，从基拉耳来到以撒那里。

他们来到了巴兰旷野的加低斯，见摩西、亚伦和以色列的全体会众，向摩西、亚伦及全体会众报告，又把那地的果子给他们看。

因为你们在寻的旷野，在加低斯米利巴水边，在以色列人中间悖逆我，在以色列人中间没有尊我为圣。

扫罗击杀亚玛力人，从哈腓拉直到埃及东的书珥，

我们向耶和华呼求，他就听了我们的声音，派使者把我们从埃及领出来；现在我们就在你边界上的城加低斯。

“我们照着耶和华我们的神吩咐我们的，从何烈山起行，走过你们所见那大而可怕的旷野，沿着到亚摩利人山地的路而行；后来到了加低斯．巴尼亚。

亚撒和跟随他的人民追赶他们，直到基拉耳；古实人被杀的很多，不能恢复强盛；因为他们在耶和华和他的军队面前被击溃了；犹大人夺取了极多战利品。他们又攻击基拉耳周围的一切城市，因为各城的人都惧怕耶和华。犹大人又把各城洗掠一空，因为城中的财物甚多。

亚伯兰带着妻子和所有的一切，以及罗得，一同从埃及上到南地去。

然后转到安．密巴，就是加低斯，攻占了亚玛力人全部的领土，也击败了住在哈洗逊．他玛的亚摩利人。

耶和华的声音震撼旷野，耶和华震撼加低斯的旷野。

基拉耳的牧人与以撒的牧人争闹起来，说：“这水是我们的。”以撒就给那井起名叫埃色，因为他们与他相争。

那时，以撒刚从庇耳．拉海．莱回来，他原本是住在南地的。
