One day the older daughter said to the younger,“ Our father is old, and there is no man around here to give us children— as is the custom all over the earth.

大馬知示拉雖長、而己未得嫁之、故去喪服、以帕蒙面蔽體、坐亭訥途側二泉之處。猶大見其蔽面、以為妓、不知為媳。途側就之、曰與爾偕寢、可乎。婦曰、何以贈我。曰、必遣山羊之羔。曰、以何為質而待羔至。曰、爾欲何質。曰、爾印及紳與杖、乃畀之、遂薦寢焉。婦即懷妊、起而去、脫帕、仍衣喪服。猶大托友亞土蘭人遣之羔、欲取其質、而不見婦。問居民曰、途側二泉處、有妓安在、曰、此地無妓。返見猶大曰、求之不得、居民亦言彼地無妓。猶大曰、任婦得質、若遍求之、適足增羞、吾曾遣羔、不得其人矣。○越三月、人告猶大云、爾媳大馬有淫行、今已懷妊。猶大曰、曳出焚之。既出、遣人謂舅曰、投贈之主、使我懷妊、試觀此印、及紳與杖、屬誰。猶大識之曰、不嫁之與示拉、我過矣。婦過較我為輕。嗣後猶大與之絕。○臨產、知其孿生。產際、一子先出其手、收生者以絳絲繫之、曰、此首出也。手入、他子生矣。收生者曰、爾何坼之、此爾自坼、故命名法勒士。其手繫絳絲者後出、命名撒拉。

望所多馬蛾摩拉、與平原一境、則見烟焰騰上、如出洪爐。

猶大命阿楠曰、當與嫂同室、生子以嗣兄。阿楠知子不歸己、雖與嫂偕寢、不欲生子、為兄嗣續。

彼得不自知所謂、門徒甚懼、
