上帝说：“不！你妻子撒拉必为你生一个儿子，你要给他起名叫以撒。我要与他坚立我的约，成为他后裔永远的约。

神说：“不！你妻子撒拉必为你生一个儿子，你要给他起名叫以撒。我要与他坚立我的约，成为他后裔永远的约。

上帝说：“不，你妻子撒拉必为你生一个儿子，你要给他取名叫以撒，我必向他和他的后代坚守我的约，直到永远。

神說：「不，你的妻子撒拉將為你生一個兒子，你要給他起名為以撒。我要與他確立我的約，作為他後裔永遠的約。

Then God said,“ Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.

Then God said,“ Yes, I will bless Ishmael. But your wife Sarah will have a son by you. And you will name him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him. That covenant will last forever. It will be for Isaac and his family after him.

God said,“ No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.

But God replied,“ No— Sarah, your wife, will give birth to a son for you. You will name him Isaac, and I will confirm my covenant with him and his descendants as an everlasting covenant.

But God said,“ No. Your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac. I will confirm my covenant with him as a permanent covenant for his future offspring.

But God said,“ No, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you shall name him Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.

Then God said:“ No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him.

And God said, Nay, but Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him.

But God said,“ No. Your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac. I will confirm My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his future offspring.

And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant,[ and] with his seed after him.

God said,“ No, Sarah your wife is going to bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac. I will confirm my covenant with him as a perpetual covenant for his descendants after him.

God said,“ No, but Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son. You shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.

當然，這不是說神的話落了空，因為出自以色列的，不都是以色列人；也不因為他們是亞伯拉罕的後裔，就都成為他的兒女，只有“以撒生的，才可以稱為你的後裔”，這就是說，肉身生的兒女並不是神的兒女，只有憑著應許生的兒女才算是後裔。因為所應許的話是這樣：“明年這個時候我要來，撒拉必定生一個兒子。”

天使說：“撒迦利亞，不要怕，因為你的祈求已蒙垂聽，你妻子以利沙伯要給你生一個兒子，你要給他起名叫約翰。你必歡喜快樂，許多人因他出生，也必喜樂。他在主面前要被尊為大，淡酒濃酒都不喝，未出母腹就被聖靈充滿。他要使許多以色列人轉向主他們的神。他必有以利亞的靈和能力，行在主的前面，叫父親的心轉向兒女，叫悖逆的轉向義人的意念，為主安排那預備好了的人民。”撒迦利亞對天使說：“我怎麼能知道這事呢？我已經老了，我妻子也上了年紀。”天使回答：“我是站在神面前的加百列，奉差遣向你說話，報給你這好消息。看吧！到了時候我的話必要應驗；因為你不信我的話，你必成為啞巴，直到這些事成就的那一天，才能說話。”

亞伯拉罕年老的時候，撒拉懷了孕，到了神應許的日期，就給亞伯拉罕生了一個兒子。亞伯拉罕給撒拉為他所生的兒子，起名叫以撒。

可是，弟兄們，你們是按著應許作兒女的，好像以撒一樣。不過，當時那按著肉體生的，迫害那按著聖靈生的，現在也是這樣。然而經上怎樣說呢？“把婢女和她的兒子趕出去，因為婢女的兒子，絕對不可以和自由的婦人的兒子一同承受產業。”所以，弟兄們，我們不是婢女的兒女，而是自由的婦人的兒女了。

撒拉說：“神使我歡笑，凡聽見的，也必為我歡笑。”

以利沙說：“明年這個時分，時候到了，你必懷抱一個兒子。”她說：“神人哪！不要欺哄你的婢女。”這婦人果然懷了孕，到明年這個時分，時候到了，她就生了一個兒子，正如以利沙對她所說的。

其中一位說：“到明年這個時候，我必回到你這裡來。那時，你的妻子撒拉必生一個兒子。”撒拉在那人後面的帳棚門口，也聽見了這話。當時，亞伯拉罕和撒拉都老了，上了年紀，撒拉的月經也停止了。撒拉心裡暗笑，說：“現在我已經衰老了，我的丈夫也老了，我還有房事的樂趣嗎？”耶和華對亞伯拉罕說：“撒拉為甚麼暗笑說：‘我已經老了，真的還能生育嗎？’耶和華豈有難成的事嗎？到明年這個時候，我要回到你這裡來，那時，撒拉必生一個兒子。”

你要寄居在這地，我必與你同在，必賜福給你，因為我要把這全地都賜給你和你的後裔，履行我向你父親亞伯拉罕所起的誓。

但我的約是要和以撒堅立的。這以撒，就是明年這時候，撒拉要為你生的。”
